Overview

Confidential Client is hiring a Junior Java Backend Developer (entry-level) in Seattle, WA. This role is ideal for candidates who have some programming experience (Java or C++) and want hands-on experience building microservices and back-end systems using modern Java tooling, Spring Boot, REST APIs, SQL, Git, and automated testing. The position includes practical project work and interview preparation to help move candidates from support or non-development roles into full-time software engineer positions.

What You’ll Do

• Contribute to backend services built with Java and Spring Boot
• Implement and consume REST APIs and microservices components
• Write unit and integration tests; follow TDD practices where applicable
• Work with relational databases (SQL) and basic schema design/querying
• Use Git for source control and participate in code reviews
• Debug, profile, and troubleshoot backend issues in staging and test environments
• Deliver project-based assignments that demonstrate hands-on development skills
• Prepare for technical interviews by practicing data structures, algorithms, and system design fundamentals

Minimum Qualifications

• Practical knowledge of Java or C++ (coursework, projects, or on-the-job experience)
• Familiarity with object-oriented programming and core Java concepts (collections, exceptions, concurrency basics)
• Experience or coursework with RESTful APIs and web services
• Basic SQL skills (queries, joins, simple schema understanding)
• Comfort using Git and collaborative workflows (branches, pull requests)
• Willingness to learn Spring Boot, microservices patterns, and testing frameworks
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Located in (or willing to relocate to) Seattle, WA, and eligible to work in the U.S.

• Coursework or project experience with Spring Boot or similar Java frameworks
• Familiarity with cloud basics (containers, Docker, or cloud-hosted services)
• Some exposure to data structures & algorithms (DSA) and interview-style problem solving
• Experience with CI/CD tools or basic DevOps practices
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or related field OR demonstrable project experience

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range for this position: $82,000 - $127,000 per year (Seattle, WA).
