Overview
Confidential Client is seeking a Junior Interior Designer to support on-site healthcare design and construction activities at a Veterans Affairs facility in Fort Bliss, TX. This is a full-time, contract opportunity that requires work on a military installation and compliance with federal credentialing and security requirements.
Responsibilities
- Support senior interior designers and project managers delivering healthcare interior design work that meets VA standards and project requirements.
- Assist with planning and coordinating projects from concept through installation for renovations, capital improvements, maintenance, and new construction.
- Prepare construction documents, finish schedules, furniture plans, material boards, specifications, and presentation materials under senior staff direction.
- Assist with FF&E planning, furniture inventories, procurement support, installation coordination, and asset tracking.
- Coordinate selections and documentation for paint, flooring, ceilings, lighting, wall coverings, casework, window treatments, curtains, artwork, and other finishes.
- Maintain finish schedules, room data sheets (RDS), material libraries, and design documentation consistent with VA design standards.
- Support space planning and develop functional layouts to support patient care, accessibility, and operational workflows.
- Prepare and support RDS, Project Room Contents (PRC), equipment layouts, and VA SEPS documentation.
- Review finish samples, shop drawings, product submittals, and mockups for compliance with specifications.
- Participate in site visits, field verification, punch walks, and installation inspections.
- Assist with project activation tasks—furniture installation, departmental relocations, and occupancy coordination.
- Help prepare owner turnover documentation, O&M manuals, SOPs, and project closeout documents.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, and facility staff; attend multidisciplinary meetings on planning, patient safety, infection prevention, and accessibility.
- Research products and finishes for durability, sustainability, infection prevention, and maintenance considerations.
- Communicate project updates to the team and escalate issues to senior staff as needed.
- Perform other interior design and project support duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- In accordance with federal regulations, possession of a valid Real ID is required for this position.
- Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a closely related field from an accredited program.
- 1–3 years of professional interior design experience preferred; healthcare design experience is a plus.
- Internship or entry-level experience supporting commercial, institutional, or healthcare projects preferred.
- Working knowledge of interior design principles, space planning, color theory, furniture systems, finish materials, and building products.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.
- Experience assisting with construction documents, finish schedules, specifications, and FF&E documentation preferred.
- Basic understanding of building codes, ADA accessibility requirements, life-safety standards, and healthcare design guidelines.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills; ability to support multiple concurrent projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to collaborate on multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to learn VA design standards, healthcare planning processes, and facility activation requirements.
- Ability to conduct site visits, field verification, and furniture/finish inspections as needed.
- Must satisfy federal, VA, and facility-specific credentialing requirements.
- Must be able to pass a drug test and a thorough background investigation required for access to a military installation (background check may extend beyond 7 years per federal law).
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay range: $40.00–$45.00 per hour.
- Benefits include: 80 hours PTO (accrued), medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, long-term disability, critical illness, and accident coverage.
