What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking a Junior Interior Designer to support healthcare interior design projects (VA facilities) in El Paso, TX. This contract, full-time role focuses on project support from design development through installation and closeout.

• Support senior interior designers and project managers with healthcare interior design services and VA design standards compliance.
• Assist with planning, coordination, and execution of interior projects for renovations, capital improvements, maintenance, and new construction.
• Prepare construction documents, finish schedules, furniture plans, material boards, specifications, and presentation materials under senior staff direction.
• Support FF&E planning: inventories, procurement assistance, installation coordination, and asset tracking.
• Coordinate finishes and interior elements including paint, flooring, ceilings, lighting, wall coverings, casework, window treatments, cubicle curtains, artwork, and furnishings.
• Develop and maintain finish schedules, Room Data Sheets (RDS), Project Room Contents (PRC), and SEPS documentation consistent with VA standards.
• Assist with space planning to support patient care workflows, accessibility, and operational efficiency.
• Review shop drawings, product submittals, mockups and finish samples for compliance with project specifications under supervision.
• Participate in site visits, field verification, punch walks, and installation inspections; support activation and move coordination.
• Help prepare turnover documentation, O&M manuals, SOPs, and project closeout deliverables.
• Maintain project files, budgets, schedules, vendor contacts, and material libraries.
• Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, and facility staff; raise issues to senior staff as needed.
• Research and recommend durable, sustainable, and infection-prevention-focused materials and furnishings suitable for healthcare settings.
• Perform other interior design and project support tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a closely related field from an accredited program.
• 1–3 years of professional interior design experience preferred; healthcare design experience is a strong plus.
• Internship or entry-level experience supporting commercial, institutional, or healthcare projects is welcomed.
• Working knowledge of interior design principles: space planning, color theory, furniture systems, finish materials, and building products.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
• Experience preparing construction documents, finish schedules, specifications, and FF&E documentation preferred.
• Basic understanding of building codes, ADA accessibility, life safety standards, and healthcare design guidelines.
• Strong organization, time management, and ability to support multiple concurrent projects.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and collaborative skills on multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to perform site visits, field verification, and finish or furniture inspections as needed.
• Must meet applicable federal, VA, and facility-specific credentialing requirements.
• Must be able to pass a drug test and a thorough background investigation required for access to a military installation (background checks may extend beyond seven years per federal guidelines).
• Possession of a valid Real ID is required for this position (federal regulation).

Compensation & Benefits

• Rate: $40.00 – $45.00 per hour (contract)
• Benefits (as provided by the client for eligible contractors/employees): accrued PTO (example: 80 hours), Medical, Dental, Vision, Short- and Long-Term Disability, Critical Illness, and Accident coverage. Exact benefits and eligibility determined by Confidential Client and applicable contract terms.
