Responsibilities

Confidential Client is seeking a Junior Interior Designer to support interior design and FF&E activities for healthcare projects at a Veterans Affairs facility in El Paso, TX. Typical responsibilities include:

  • Support senior interior designers and project managers with healthcare interior design tasks that meet VA standards and project requirements.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating interior design work from concept through installation for renovation, maintenance, capital improvement, and new construction projects.
  • Prepare construction documents, finish schedules, furniture plans, material boards, specifications, and presentation materials under senior direction.
  • Assist with Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment (FF&E) planning, furniture inventories, procurement support, installation coordination, and asset tracking.
  • Coordinate selections and documentation for paint, flooring, ceilings, lighting, wall coverings, casework, window treatments, cubicle curtains, and artwork.
  • Develop and maintain finish schedules, Room Data Sheets (RDS), material libraries, and other design documentation aligned with VA design standards.
  • Support space planning that promotes patient care, operational efficiency, accessibility, and healthcare workflows.
  • Review finish samples, shop drawings, product submittals, and mockups for compliance with project specifications.
  • Participate in site visits, field verification, punch walks, and installation inspections to confirm design intent and quality.
  • Assist with owner turnover documentation, O&M manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and project closeout tasks.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, and facility staff throughout project development.
  • Research durable, maintainable, and infection-prevention-conscious products and finishes appropriate for healthcare environments.
  • Communicate project updates and escalate issues to senior staff when necessary.
  • Perform additional interior design and project support duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required / preferred qualifications:

  • Valid Real ID is required in accordance with federal regulations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a closely related field from an accredited program.
  • 1–3 years of professional interior design experience preferred; healthcare design experience is a plus.
  • Internship or entry-level experience supporting commercial, institutional, or healthcare interior design projects preferred.
  • Working knowledge of interior design principles, space planning, color theory, furniture systems, finish materials, and building products.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
  • Experience assisting with construction documents, finish schedules, specifications, and FF&E documentation preferred.
  • Basic understanding of building codes, ADA accessibility requirements, life safety standards, and healthcare design guidelines.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills; ability to support multiple concurrent projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to conduct site visits and field verification as needed.
  • Must satisfy all applicable federal, VA, and facility-specific credentialing requirements.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test and a background investigation for access to a military installation (background checks may extend beyond seven years per federal requirements).

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay range: $40.00 – $45.00 per hour.
  • Benefits include (typical): 80 hours accumulated PTO, medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, long-term disability, critical illness, and accident coverage.
  • Confidential Client’s pay structure accounts for experience, education, skills, budget, and internal equity; final offer may vary.

  • Employment type: Full-time, on-site.
  • Location: El Paso, TX (work is performed at a VA hospital site).
