Junior Estimator
The Junior Estimator supports the Chief Estimator in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for heavy civil and construction projects. This entry-level role involves quantity takeoffs, proposal development, vendor coordination, and cost analysis, providing hands-on experience to develop estimating expertise while collaborating with operations and project teams to ensure successful project bids.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Chief Estimator in preparing detailed, competitive cost estimates and bid proposals for heavy civil, asphalt, aggregates, and construction projects.
- Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to identify scope, risks, and technical requirements.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and help develop labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor cost estimates.
- Solicit, log, and track pricing from suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Maintain estimating databases, historical cost records, and complete bid documentation.
- Support preparation of bid packages and formal proposal submissions.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project reviews as requested.
- Assist with post-bid analysis and lessons‑learned reviews to improve estimating accuracy.
- Coordinate with operations, project management, and business development to validate assumptions and collect project data.
- Help identify constructability issues, risks, and cost‑saving opportunities.
- Complete estimating tasks per client procedures and timelines; support special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Business, or related field — or equivalent combination of education plus relevant construction experience.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem‑solving ability.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel (spreadsheet modeling and data analysis).
- Ability to read or willingness to learn to read construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management in fast‑paced environments.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to coordinate with multiple teams.
Preferred
- Internship, co‑op, or prior experience in construction estimating, project engineering, or project coordination.
- Familiarity with estimating software and digital takeoff tools.
- Experience with heavy civil, highway, asphalt, grading, site development, or infrastructure construction projects.
