Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chief Estimator in preparing detailed, competitive cost estimates and bid proposals for heavy civil, asphalt, aggregates, and construction projects.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to identify scope, risks, and technical requirements.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and help develop labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor cost estimates.
  • Solicit, log, and track pricing from suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Maintain estimating databases, historical cost records, and complete bid documentation.
  • Support preparation of bid packages and formal proposal submissions.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project reviews as requested.
  • Assist with post-bid analysis and lessons‑learned reviews to improve estimating accuracy.
  • Coordinate with operations, project management, and business development to validate assumptions and collect project data.
  • Help identify constructability issues, risks, and cost‑saving opportunities.
  • Complete estimating tasks per client procedures and timelines; support special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Business, or related field — or equivalent combination of education plus relevant construction experience.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem‑solving ability.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel (spreadsheet modeling and data analysis).
  • Ability to read or willingness to learn to read construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management in fast‑paced environments.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to coordinate with multiple teams.

Preferred

  • Internship, co‑op, or prior experience in construction estimating, project engineering, or project coordination.
  • Familiarity with estimating software and digital takeoff tools.
  • Experience with heavy civil, highway, asphalt, grading, site development, or infrastructure construction projects.
