Position overview

Confidential Client (Trade & Construction) is hiring a Junior Estimator to support the Chief Estimator in preparing accurate, competitive cost estimates for heavy civil, asphalt, aggregates, and related construction projects. This entry‑level to early‑career role is based in Cloverdale, TN and is an excellent opportunity to develop estimating skills through hands‑on bid preparation, quantity takeoffs, vendor coordination, and cost analysis while collaborating with operations and project teams.


What You’ll Do

  • Assist the Chief Estimator in preparing detailed cost estimates and bid proposals for construction projects (heavy civil, asphalt, aggregates, infrastructure).
  • Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to identify scope, risks, and requirements.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and support development of labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor cost estimates.
  • Solicit, compare, and track pricing from suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Maintain estimating databases, historical cost records, and bid documentation.
  • Help prepare bid packages, proposal submissions, and supporting project materials.
  • Participate in pre‑bid meetings, site visits, and project reviews as assigned.
  • Support post‑bid analysis and lessons‑learned reviews to improve future estimates.
  • Coordinate with operations, project management, and business development to validate assumptions and gather project information.
  • Identify potential project risks, cost‑saving opportunities, and constructability considerations.
  • Complete estimating tasks in accordance with company procedures and deadlines.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Chief Estimator.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Business, or related field — or equivalent combination of education and relevant construction experience.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Ability or willingness to learn to interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

Preferred

  • Internship, co‑op, or prior experience in construction estimating, project engineering, project coordination, or related roles.
  • Familiarity with estimating software, digital takeoff tools, or construction management systems.
  • Experience in heavy civil, highway, asphalt, grading, site development, or infrastructure construction.
