Role Overview
Confidential Client is hiring a Junior Distribution Systems (DS) Engineer to support a network modernization program at Eielson Air Force Base / North Pole, AK (Fairbanks area). This is an on-site, full-time role that will support fiber and wired network installation, testing, documentation, and day-to-day field engineering tasks under senior engineer guidance. US Citizenship and the ability to obtain an Interim Secret clearance are required.
Primary Responsibilities
This is an entry- to junior-level field engineering role focused on ISP/OSP and wired network support:
- Assist senior field engineers in troubleshooting and resolving network and cabling issues.
- Support installation of network equipment, racks, and infrastructure under supervision.
- Perform end-to-end fiber testing using OTDRs, power meters, and related tools; document results.
- Update as-built records, splice logs, circuit connectivity matrices, and basic design documentation.
- Assist with site surveys, cable pathway verification, and rack elevations documentation.
- Coordinate site access, equipment readiness, and schedules with Government POCs as directed.
- Communicate daily with team members to support project timelines and milestones.
- Support basic stakeholder communications and provide status updates to project leads.
- Participate on small implementation teams and follow established quality assurance processes.
- Attend training sessions and support positive customer interactions on-site.
Other Responsibilities
- Prepare draft technical documents, reports, and basic deliverables for senior review.
- Support vendor coordination and help collect data needed for design recommendations.
- Maintain awareness of current wired and fiber technologies; participate in required training.
- Assist with basic administrative and operational tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline OR 2+ years of related field experience in distribution systems, cabling, or network implementation.
- US Citizenship required.
- Ability to obtain Interim Secret security clearance.
- Demonstrated familiarity with fiber testing and basic ISP/OSP design documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and a commitment to teamwork.
- Able to work on-site in the Fairbanks / Eielson AFB area and participate in fieldwork.
Technical Skills
- Hands-on experience with fiber testing tools (OTDRs, power meters) and interpretation of test results.
- Familiarity with distribution systems documentation: as-builts, rack elevations, circuit connectivity matrices, and design diagrams.
- General understanding of wired network principles and cabling best practices.
- Basic proficiency with documentation tools (MS Office); familiarity with Visio or CAD tools is a plus.
Desired Qualifications
- MS Visio or related CAD experience.
- BICSI certification(s) or related cabling certifications.
- Prior experience supporting government or military base networks.
- Experience with ISP/OSP coordination and small-team field implementation.
Location, Compensation & Benefits
- On-site at Eielson Air Force Base / North Pole (Fairbanks area), AK. Candidate should be able to reside in or near the Fairbanks area for daily onsite project support.
- The likely salary range for this position is $72,877 - $98,599 (range provided by our client and subject to experience, location, and contractual factors).
