Role Overview
Confidential Client is hiring a Junior DS (Distribution Systems) Engineer to support a Building Infrastructure Modernization (BIM) contract at Eielson Air Force Base (Fairbanks), AK. This is an onsite, full-time position focused on wiring, fiber testing, and low-voltage distribution system tasks to support network modernization for government customers.
What You’ll Do
This is an entry-level technical role that supports senior field engineers and project teams. Typical responsibilities include:
- Assist senior field engineers with troubleshooting and resolution of wired-network issues
- Support installation of cabling, racks, and infrastructure under established procedures
- Perform fiber testing (OTDR, power meters) and document test results
- Help install new or upgraded network technologies under guidance
- Update as-built drawings, circuit connectivity matrices, and basic design documentation
- Coordinate site access, equipment readiness, and schedules with government POCs
- Document field findings and escalate issues that affect project progress
- Participate in team testing, commissioning, and quality assurance activities
- Assist with vendor coordination and basic stakeholder communications as directed
- Attend customer meetings alongside senior engineers and support communication needs
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline OR 2+ years of related experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Interim Secret security clearance
- Willingness and ability to reside in the Fairbanks, AK area for daily onsite support
- Familiarity with fiber testing tools and basic OTDR/power meter procedures
- Basic understanding of ISP/OSP distribution systems, rack elevations, and connectivity matrices
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
Desired
- Experience using MS Visio or CAD tools
- BICSI-related certifications
- Prior field installation or military base experience (helpful, not required)
Technical Skills & Abilities
- Familiarity with distribution systems (ISP/OSP) design and implementation documents
- Knowledge of fiber-optic testing best practices and tools
- General understanding of wired IT network functions and low-voltage infrastructure
- Ability to read and interpret technical procedures, design documents, and government regulations
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Compensation & Logistics
- Estimated salary range: $72,877 - $98,599 per year (range provided by the client; actual pay determined by experience and contractual rules)
- Employment type: Full-time
- Scheduled weekly hours: 40
- Travel: Less than 10%
- Telecommuting: Onsite at Eielson Air Force Base (Fairbanks), AK
