Role Overview
Confidential Client (via Careertakes) is hiring a Junior DevSecOps Engineer to join an IT team responsible for modernizing infrastructure, automating deployments, and strengthening application security. This entry-level role is ideal for an early-career engineer who wants hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), configuration management (Ansible), CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps / GitHub Actions), and cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure), with mentorship from senior staff.
What You’ll Do
- Develop hands-on expertise with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management: build and maintain Terraform modules and Ansible playbooks.
- Implement and maintain automated code-scanning and security tooling (static analysis, dependency/vulnerability scanning, secrets detection) integrated in source control and CI/CD pipelines.
- Build, configure, and maintain CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions) to deploy applications consistently across development, test, and production environments.
- Provision and support Microsoft Azure resources (compute, networking, identity, storage) and manage Windows and Linux servers using automation instead of manual configuration.
- Automate routine operational and deployment tasks using PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
- Monitor infrastructure and application health, respond to alerts and security findings, and remediate vulnerabilities promptly.
- Maintain clear documentation: architecture diagrams, runbooks, standards, and change records.
- Provide second-level support to the help desk for infrastructure, deployment, and security-related issues.
- Research and recommend tools and practices to raise the organization’s infrastructure and security posture.
Qualifications
Required
- Associate degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 0–3 years of relevant technical experience; internships, co-ops, lab, or personal projects count.
- Foundational knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Fundamental networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, routing).
- Familiarity with a public cloud platform — preferably Microsoft Azure.
- Exposure to IaC (Terraform) and configuration management (Ansible); hands-on experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with version control (Git) and CI/CD concepts.
- Awareness of application security fundamentals (OWASP Top 10, vulnerability scanning, secrets management).
- Practical scripting experience with PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
- Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration skills.
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred
- Understanding of Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD).
- Relevant certifications (e.g., AZ-900, Terraform Associate, CompTIA Security+) are a plus.
- Willingness to learn from senior engineers and grow across infrastructure, DevOps, and security disciplines.
