Role Overview

Confidential Client is seeking a Junior Data Scientist (entry-level) based in the San Antonio / Fort Sam Houston area to support data science and machine learning initiatives for technology clients. This role is a great fit for recent graduates or early-career data practitioners who have hands-on project experience, are eager to learn, and want to build real-world ML and analytics skills.

What You’ll Do

• Work on data preparation and feature engineering for structured and unstructured datasets
• Build, evaluate, and iterate on machine learning models (classification, regression, time series)
• Develop data visualizations and dashboards to communicate results to stakeholders
• Apply statistical methods to support experimentation and model validation
• Implement reproducible pipelines and collaborate with engineers to productionize models
• Document analyses, present findings to technical and non-technical audiences, and support client-facing demos

What We’re Looking For (Minimum Qualifications)

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field
• Hands-on project experience (coursework, internships, personal or open-source projects) that demonstrates data science skills
• Programming experience with Python (or SAS) and familiarity with data manipulation libraries (pandas, numpy)
• Strong foundation in statistics and data analysis concepts
• Experience or familiarity with data visualization tools and techniques (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI, matplotlib, seaborn)
• Clear written and verbal communication skills; able to explain technical results to clients and teammates
• Self-motivated, curious, and able to learn new tools and methods quickly
• Eligible to work in the U.S.; Confidential Client considers candidates with different visa statuses and may support STEM OPT extensions and certain sponsorship pathways

Preferred Skills

• Experience with machine learning libraries (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
• Knowledge of NLP or text-mining techniques (topic modeling, embeddings)
• Exposure to computer vision or time-series modeling
• Experience building dashboards in Tableau or PowerBI
• Familiarity with Docker, REST APIs, and basic software development lifecycle practices
