Role overview

Confidential client is hiring an entry-level Junior Data Scientist with BI skills in North College Park, MD. This role is ideal for candidates who have completed coursework or projects in Python, machine learning, statistics, or data science and want to move into production-focused analytics and BI work. You’ll work on data cleaning, exploratory analysis, model evaluation, and communicating results to business stakeholders.


What you’ll do

  • Support data preparation and ETL tasks using Python and SQL
  • Perform exploratory data analysis and data visualization to surface insights
  • Build and evaluate simple predictive models and classification algorithms
  • Translate model results and analytics into clear business recommendations
  • Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and product teams to deploy analytics solutions
  • Document analyses, maintain reproducible notebooks, and follow testing/best practices

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field (recent grads welcome)
  • Practical experience with Python (pandas, numpy) and SQL for data manipulation
  • Familiarity with basic machine learning concepts (regression, classification, cross-validation)
  • Experience with data visualization tools or libraries (Matplotlib, Seaborn, or BI tools)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical results to non‑technical audiences
  • Willingness to learn and iterate in a fast-paced environment

Preferred / Nice-to-have

  • Experience with ML libraries (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
  • Exposure to NLP or predictive analytics projects
  • Hands-on use of BI platforms (Looker, Tableau, Power BI)
  • Coursework or projects demonstrating end-to-end model development and evaluation
