Confidential Client (via Careertakes) is hiring entry-level candidates for a Junior Data Scientist / Data Analyst / Java Full-Stack Developer track in Champaign, IL. This opening targets candidates early in their careers — recent grads, career switchers, those re-entering the workforce, and bootcamp grads — who are ready to build practical skills and contribute on day one. The role focuses on hands-on project work, learning support, and client placements across data and full-stack Java projects.

What you’ll do

• Work on real-world projects that may include data analysis, data pipelines, ML model prototyping, or Java-based full-stack features
• Use Python and SQL for data extraction, transformation, and exploratory analysis
• Build or support backend services with Java/Spring and contribute to front-end features as needed
• Implement and test models or application components; document results and share findings with stakeholders
• Collaborate with engineers, product owners, and data teams to turn requirements into working deliverables
• Participate in assessments and learning modules designed to prepare you for client interviews and production work

Qualifications (must-haves)

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Statistics, or related field — recent graduates welcome
• Working knowledge of Python (for data work) and SQL for querying databases
• Familiarity with Java and basic web application concepts (HTTP, REST, basic frontend)
• Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to complete guided projects and assessments
• Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
• Authorized to work in the United States

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Spring, microservices, or Java back-end frameworks
• Exposure to BI tools, cloud data platforms, or ETL workflows
• Introductory experience with machine learning libraries (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch) or GenAI concepts

• Any internship, project, or coursework showing hands-on coding or data work

Compensation & employment details

• Employment type: Full time
• Salary range (posted): $82,000 - $127,000 per year
• Location: Champaign, IL (on-site or local hybrid as required by client)
