Role Overview

Confidential Client is seeking entry-level / junior candidates for roles that combine data analysis, data science fundamentals, and Java development with modern frameworks. This is a hands-on role based in Chicago, IL (see location section). You will work on real projects that help you modernize technical skills—especially Java and Spring Boot—while contributing to data-driven solutions.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain data pipelines, reports, and dashboards to support business decisions
• Develop, test, and maintain Java backend components using Spring Boot and related frameworks
• Implement RESTful APIs and work with JPA/ORM for data access
• Participate in CI/CD pipelines and containerized deployments (Docker, basic Kubernetes concepts)
• Support microservice-based applications and collaborate on design and debugging
• Assist with exploratory data analysis, simple ML model prototyping, or statistical reporting as needed
• Communicate results and technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience
• Demonstrable coding ability in Java (core Java knowledge expected)
• Familiarity with Spring / Spring Boot (or a strong aptitude to learn these quickly)
• Basic understanding of RESTful services, SQL, and data modeling
• Experience or coursework in data analysis (Python, R, SQL, or similar)
• Comfortable using version control (Git) and basic CI/CD concepts (Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
• Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn modern tooling and best practices

Preferred (Nice-to-Have)

• Experience with Spring Security, JPA/Hibernate, or modern Java (Java 11+ / 17+)
• Exposure to Docker and Kubernetes fundamentals
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and cloud deployment concepts
• Coursework or projects in machine learning, statistical modeling, or ETL pipelines
• Internship or project experience that demonstrates applied, practical skills

Compensation & Employment Type

• Salary range: $82,000 - $136,000 per year (Confidential Client)
• Employment type: Full time

This salary range is provided by the source and will be honored in posting materials. Exact compensation will depend on experience and role placement.

• Job location: Chicago, IL (on-site or client placements in the Chicago area). Local candidates are preferred.
