What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is hiring for an entry-level to early-career engineering role focused on backend and data work. You will join a technical team building and maintaining data pipelines, analytics backends, and supporting production data systems.
- Build, test, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using Python and SQL
- Work with streaming concepts and batch processing to move and transform data
- Implement and optimize data storage and query performance (warehouse and lake patterns)
- Contribute to unit and integration tests, CI/CD for data systems
- Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and engineers to translate requirements into production-ready pipelines
- Assist with documentation and “walk me through” artifacts that make your work clear to reviewers and interviewers
What We're Looking For
This role is suitable for recent grads, career-switchers, and candidates with limited professional experience who can demonstrate hands-on projects or coursework.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Statistics, or equivalent experience (preferred, not strictly required)
- Practical experience with Python and SQL (coursework, projects, internships, bootcamps acceptable)
- Familiarity with distributed processing concepts (Spark or similar) and data warehouse tools
- Understanding of ETL/ELT patterns and basic cloud concepts (AWS/GCP/Azure)
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to explain projects and technical decisions clearly
- Good teamwork and written communication skills
Nice to Have
- Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, or similar managed platforms
- Exposure to stream processing (Kafka, Kinesis) or event-driven architectures
- Familiarity with version control (git) and CI/CD pipelines
- Coursework or projects in data engineering, data science, or machine learning pipelines
Compensation & Location
- Base salary: $82,000 - $136,000 per year (listed range from the hiring client)
- Location: Storrs, CT (role listing references Remote — confirm remote/hybrid options with the hiring team)
