What You’ll Do
The Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Jr. RF Compatibility Test Engineer to support spacecraft-to-ground compatibility testing and integration activities at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). You will work in a Compatibility Test Lab (CTL) to validate RF and baseband interfaces, support prelaunch and engineering tests, and help modernize and automate the test environment.
- Perform RF compatibility and engineering tests with the Space Relay (SR) and Direct-To-Earth (DTE) networks per test plans and procedures.
- Review requirements, test plans, and procedures; set up and checkout test equipment and interfaces.
- Configure and operate RF test equipment (spectrum analyzer, signal generator, oscilloscope) and baseband devices (modems, routers, switches).
- Validate telemetry, command, and ranging authentication and capture measurements via RF or baseband interfaces.
- Troubleshoot, perform fault detection/isolation, and summarize test results.
- Support signal investigations, proof-of-concept tests for new modulations, hardware, and antenna systems.
- Collect data, prepare reports, and refine reporting templates aligned with data-collection needs.
- Contribute to test automation by developing code to integrate COTS software into the automation suite (Python or similar).
- Support occasional off-site testing at spacecraft manufacturers, ground tracking stations, or Mission Operations Control Centers as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Math, or related technical discipline and 1–3 years related technical experience; OR Associate degree with 2 years; OR 6+ years related experience without a degree.
- Hands-on knowledge of RF systems: frequency bands, RF devices, key measurements, and signal distortion.
- Ability to independently configure and operate RF test equipment (spectrum analyzer, signal generator, oscilloscope).
- Experience configuring/operating baseband devices (modems, routers, switches).
- Experience writing test plans, building test setups, interpreting results, and communicating findings clearly.
- Familiarity with coding and modulation techniques.
- Proficiency with MS Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Word.
- Ability to obtain a DoD SECRET clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with NASA SN and NEN networks or similar space communications systems.
- Familiarity with Ethernet communications and network troubleshooting.
- Scripting experience (Python or equivalent) for test automation.
- Experience with COSMOS or similar mission/test support software.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work independently and in teams.
Compensation & Benefits
- Target salary range: $51,000 - $82,000 per year.

- Location: Greenbelt, MD — work will be primarily onsite at NASA GSFC with occasional travel to test sites as required.
