Overview
Confidential Client is seeking a mid-level Java Software Engineer to join a hybrid engineering team in Sunnyvale, CA. You’ll help design, build, deploy, and maintain scalable enterprise microservices using Java, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, Kafka, and Cassandra. This is a full-time role for candidates with ~4+ years of hands-on Java experience who enjoy solving distributed-systems challenges in a collaborative environment.
What You’ll Do
- Build and maintain backend services using Core Java and Spring Boot
- Design and implement microservices for high availability and scalability
- Deploy and operate services on Kubernetes (containers, CI/CD pipelines)
- Integrate streaming and messaging systems using Kafka
- Work with NoSQL data stores such as Cassandra for large-scale data needs
- Troubleshoot production issues and optimize system performance
- Collaborate with product, QA, and DevOps to deliver end-to-end features
- Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and continuous improvement
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 4+ years of professional experience as a Java developer
- Strong proficiency in Core Java and Spring Boot
- Hands-on experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes)
- Experience with Kafka (or comparable streaming systems)
- Familiarity with Cassandra or other distributed NoSQL databases
- Solid understanding of microservices and distributed systems design
- Comfortable working in a hybrid environment (Sunnyvale, CA office + remote)
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Knowledge of observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK)
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools and GitOps practices
- Experience with performance tuning and capacity planning
- Prior experience working on enterprise-scale systems
