What You’ll Do
This opportunity is for a Java Software Engineer (entry-level) to join a remote-first engineering team. You will write and maintain Java services, contribute to API development, and grow through mentorship and hands-on projects.
- Write clean, testable, and maintainable Java code following best practices.
- Help build RESTful APIs using Spring Boot and integrate third-party services.
- Debug issues, perform root-cause analysis, and fix defects.
- Contribute to unit and integration tests using JUnit and Mockito.
- Work with relational databases (MySQL or PostgreSQL) and write optimized SQL.
- Use Git for source control and follow branching/merge workflows.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies—standups, sprint planning, reviews.
- Join code reviews to ensure quality and share learning with peers.
- Document APIs and technical decisions for future reference.
- Continuously learn new tools and frameworks; participate in team knowledge sharing.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking candidates who have a solid foundation in Java and are eager to learn in a collaborative, remote environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience, or relevant internships/projects.
- 0–2 years of Java development experience (internships and academic projects count).
- Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and basic data structures/algorithms.
- Familiarity with Spring Boot or Java EE and basic web concepts (HTTP, REST, JSON).
- Experience with SQL and relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL).
- Comfortable using Git and modern development workflows.
- Good problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills.
- Self-motivated, curious, and able to work independently in a remote setting.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with build tools such as Maven or Gradle.
- Exposure to microservices architecture, messaging queues, or cloud platforms (AWS/Azure).
- Knowledge of test-driven development (TDD) practices.
- Prior remote work or distributed team experience.
