Position overview

Confidential Client is seeking a skilled Java Software Engineer (Contract) to join an enterprise engineering team in Berkeley Heights, NJ. This is an onsite role (5 days/week). You will design and implement Spring Boot microservices, integrate event streaming, and deploy to cloud-native infrastructure.

What You’ll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain Java-based microservices using Spring Boot.
• Build and document RESTful APIs and integrations.
• Implement event-driven features using Kafka or similar streaming platforms.
• Deploy and operate services on cloud platforms (Azure or AWS).
• Containerize applications and manage deployments with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Work with SQL and NoSQL databases; design efficient data access patterns.
• Participate in code reviews, unit/integration testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues; tune performance and reliability.
• Collaborate with product owners, QA, and cross-functional engineering teams.

Minimum qualifications

• Strong Java (Java 8+) development experience.
• Proven Spring Boot and microservices experience.
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka or event-streaming technologies.
• Practical experience with Azure and/or AWS cloud services.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration.
• Experience with relational (SQL) and/or NoSQL databases.
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or related field preferred.
• Local New Jersey candidates preferred — must be able to attend face-to-face interviews and work onsite in Berkeley Heights, NJ 5 days per week.
• Eligible to work in the U.S. for the duration of the contract (no employer sponsorship provided by Careertakes or the client unless explicitly stated).

Preferred / Nice to have

• Experience with Spring Cloud, service discovery, and distributed tracing.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tooling (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana).
• Background in enterprise integration patterns and scalable event-driven architectures.
