Overview

Confidential Client is seeking a motivated, entry-level Java Programmer (Junior) with exposure to cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure). This role is an excellent opportunity for recent CS graduates, career changers, or early-career developers who want hands-on experience building backend services with Java Spring Boot, REST APIs, microservices, and cloud deployments. The position is based in South, VA and is hiring for a full-time opening.


What You’ll Do

  • Develop and maintain backend services using Java and Spring Boot
  • Implement and document RESTful APIs and microservices
  • Write unit and integration tests (e.g., JUnit) and participate in test-driven development practices
  • Work with relational databases (SQL) and help design database queries and schemas
  • Use Git for source control and participate in code reviews and pull request workflows
  • Assist with application deployment and basic cloud configuration on AWS and/or Azure
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues across the application stack; log and communicate defects clearly
  • Collaborate with product, QA, and other engineering team members to deliver features on schedule

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or a related field, OR equivalent practical experience
  • Entry-level to 2 years of professional or project experience with Java (core Java fundamentals)
  • Familiarity with Spring Boot (or willingness to learn quickly)
  • Basic understanding of REST APIs, HTTP, and microservice design patterns
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases
  • Comfortable using Git and collaborating in a version-controlled environment
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure) through coursework, projects, or internships
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and clear verbal/written communication
  • Willingness to learn, receive feedback, and grow technical skills on the job

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with Docker and container workflows
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML/CSS/JavaScript) or Python scripting
  • Understanding of observability (logging, monitoring) and debugging in distributed systems

Compensation & Location

  • Estimated base pay: $133,270 per year (estimated)
