Overview
This is an entry-level IT Security Analyst role supporting a state Department of Motor Vehicles engagement. The position is onsite in Blythewood, SC and will work with the security team to strengthen the agency's security posture, perform threat research, assist with incident response, and support vulnerability management and automation efforts. This is a 12-month contract with a tentative start date and requires current South Carolina residency.

What You’ll Do
- Support the DMV security team with day-to-day cybersecurity operations.
- Receive hands-on training and perform assigned security responsibilities.
- Perform threat intelligence research and document new attack methods and vulnerabilities.
- Conduct threat-hunting using SIEM and endpoint data; assist in creating and refining detection rules (including Microsoft Defender for Endpoint).
- Review and analyze firewall, endpoint, and server logs to identify indicators of compromise (IOCs).
- Assist with initial incident triage and follow incident response frameworks such as NIST and MITRE ATT&CK.
- Contribute to containment and remediation, gather evidence, and document findings for after-action reviews.
- Support vulnerability management: analyze reports, prioritize remediation, and apply NIST best practices.
- Use SCCM, Group Policy (GPO), and PowerShell to support patch deployment and automation tasks.
- Help develop and deliver security awareness training and simulations.
- Support digital forensics activities and help secure cloud adoption efforts as needed.
- Maintain and update security process documentation and reporting.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma required.
- Minimum certifications: GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC) and/or CompTIA Security+. (Source listed both GSEC and Security+ as required; include credentials you hold.)
- Understanding of core security concepts, basic computer and networking fundamentals.
- At least 6 months of valid work authorization; must be able to be placed on the Confidential Client W-2.
- Availability for onsite work and mandatory Saturday and Sunday evening shifts after training.
Preferred Qualifications
- CompTIA Network+, GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH) or similar certifications.
- 1+ year experience in an IT security-focused role, or 1+ year in server/network administration.
- Experience with SIEM platforms and endpoint security tools.
- Practical experience using PowerShell, GPO, and endpoint management solutions (SCCM).
- Knowledge of vulnerability management processes and cloud security basics.
- Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field is a plus.
