What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring an IT Assistant Level 1 (Provisional) to provide first-line service-desk and desktop support in Brooklyn, NY. This entry-level IT support role focuses on troubleshooting common hardware, software, account access, connectivity, and classroom/office technology issues, maintaining accurate ticket and inventory records, and escalating complex incidents to senior teams.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide first-line technical support to faculty, staff, students, and administrative offices via phone, email, remote support tools, walk-in service, and scheduled on-site visits.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve routine PC/laptop, peripheral, printer, and basic network connectivity issues following established procedures.
  • Assist with setup, configuration, deployment, relocation, and staging of desktops, laptops, docking stations, monitors, printers, scanners, and tablets.
  • Support classroom, lab, office, and conference-room technology (projectors/displays, document cameras, multimedia connections).
  • Provide first-line printer and multifunction copier support (paper jams, toner, basic settings) and escalate driver, network, or vendor issues as needed.
  • Create, update, and close tickets in the service management system documenting troubleshooting steps, resolutions, escalations, and follow-up.
  • Maintain inventory records: asset tags, serial numbers, room locations, equipment movement, and service status.
  • Reinforce basic cybersecurity best practices with users (password protection, phishing awareness, MFA reminders).
  • Escalate more complex problems to Networking, Systems, Cybersecurity, or other appropriate IT staff while maintaining user communication and documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

Level 1 (apply if you meet any of the following):

  • High school diploma or equivalent AND two (2) years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; OR
  • Associate’s degree AND one (1) year of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree AND six (6) months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.

English language proficiency sufficient to perform job duties is required. Confidential Client considers full-time work to be at least 35 hours per week; certain part-time experience may be prorated per established guidelines.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous customer service, help desk, computer support, or higher-education experience.
  • Experience with IT service management/ticketing systems (e.g., ServicePro or similar).
  • Familiarity with remote support tools, inventory tracking, device deployment, or device refresh projects.
  • Experience supporting printers, multifunction copiers, classroom/lab AV, and Microsoft 365 services.
  • Entry-level certifications such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft Fundamentals, or Google IT Support are desirable.

Skills & Abilities

  • Basic hands-on skills: PC/laptop setup, cabling, peripheral connection, software install assistance.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive), common web browsers, and standard productivity apps.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills; ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users.
  • Ability to document work clearly, manage multiple requests, prioritize tasks, and work independently or in a team.
  • Ability to travel across campus locations and lift/move computer equipment when needed.

Compensation

  • New Hire Rate: $56,565 per year
  • Incumbent Rate: $63,918 per year

  • This position may require travel to different campus buildings and occasional lifting/moving of equipment.
