Overview

Confidential Client is seeking a part-time Interpreter to provide accurate, compassionate foreign-language interpretation and translation for patients and families. This is a weekend, evening role (Saturday/Sunday, approx. 8:00–8:30 PM) in Little Rock, AR. This position supports clinical care by ensuring clear communication between non-English-speaking patients/families and care teams.


What You’ll Do

  • Provide timely, accurate oral interpretation and written translation for patients and families in clinical settings.
  • Interpret information faithfully without adding opinions, bias, or advice.
  • Translate patient-specific materials and educational pamphlets with strong written accuracy.
  • Educate clinical staff on cultural issues that may affect care and appropriate use of interpreter services.
  • Confirm language requests are completed and that patients/staff received the assistance requested.
  • Access and coordinate other language or hearing-impaired assistance services when needed; follow ADA rules for hearing-impaired translator services.
  • Report patient concerns or social issues identified during interpretation to appropriate staff; do not attempt to resolve clinical or social issues independently.
  • Follow up with patients/families to confirm concerns were addressed or resolved.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other interpreters to cover shift needs and solve scheduling barriers.
  • Assist with three‑way interpreting and respond to written translation requests.
  • Enter daily logs of patients served and services provided into the departmental activity system.
  • Make rounds to offer assistance to hospitalized or clinic patients who speak other languages.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Schedule & Compensation

  • Time type: Part time
  • Shift: Weekend option (Day) — Saturday/Sunday, approximately 8:00–8:30 PM
  • Hourly pay: Most new hires start between $20.50–$25.60 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)
  • Estimated annual equivalent (for typical hours): ~$44,111 (site estimate)

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree OR 4 years related experience/training OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated language proficiency and ability to interpret accurately in a warm, professional manner.
  • Interpreter Skills Assessment (Confidential Client) or equivalent competency verification.
  • Ability to work independently under stressful situations and collaborate effectively with clinical teams.

Preferred

  • 1 year related experience in health care or medical interpreting.
  • Certification such as Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI) — CCHI or NBCMI.
