What You’ll Do
The Interpreter provides accurate, timely foreign-language interpretation and translation for patients, families, and staff in a healthcare setting. Key responsibilities include:
- Provide in-person interpretation and written translation of clinical and educational materials.
- Interpret information neutrally and accurately — do not add opinions, advice, or bias.
- Demonstrate strong written-language skills for translations of patient-specific and educational materials.
- Educate clinical staff about cultural issues that may affect care and appropriate interpreter use.
- Confirm completion of language requests and follow up with patients/staff as needed.
- Access and coordinate additional language or hearing-impaired assistance per ADA rules.
- Report (but do not attempt to resolve) patient concerns or social issues identified during interpretation.
- Assist with three-way interpreting and written translation requests.
- Log daily activity (patients served and services provided) in the departmental system.
- Make rounds to identify and offer assistance to non‑English speaking hospitalized or clinic patients.
- Collaborate with other interpreters to cover needs and problem-solve scheduling or coverage barriers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college/university; OR four years related experience/training; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Interpreter Skills Assessment (Confidential Client) — required.
- Ability to demonstrate language proficiency and provide interpretation in an accurate, warm, and professional manner.
- Able to work independently, under stress, and as part of a team.
Preferred
- 1 year of healthcare or medical interpreting experience.
- Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI) — CCHI or NBCMI (recommended).
Experience level: Entry level accepted; training and assessments are required.

- Employment type: Part time
- Work shift: Weekend option (Day) — typical schedule: Saturday/Sunday, 8:00–8:30 PM (times may vary by assignment)
- Department: Interpreter Services
- Safety sensitive: This role is designated safety sensitive and cannot be filled by candidates who are current users of medical marijuana.
- Workplace policies: Confidential Client is a tobacco‑free workplace. Flu vaccines are required.
Compensation
- Most new hires start between $20.50 – $25.60 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
