Industrial Engineer
The Industrial Engineer at Confidential Client is responsible for enhancing productivity, quality, and cost efficiency within machining and manufacturing operations by analyzing processes, eliminating waste, and implementing improvements on the production floor. This role involves creating value stream maps, developing standard work procedures, leading Kaizen events, and training staff to optimize manufacturing workflows and ensure safety. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement and maintain high standards of operational excellence.

What You’ll Do
The Industrial Engineer will drive productivity, quality, and cost improvements across machining and manufacturing operations for our Confidential Client. You will spend most of your time on the production floor working alongside operators, supervisors, and maintenance teams to analyze processes, eliminate waste, and implement practical solutions that increase throughput, reduce cycle time, and improve safety.
- Create current-state and future-state Value Stream Maps (VSMs) to trace material and information flows and identify non-value-added steps.
- Develop, implement, and maintain standard work, cycle times, takt times, and standard labor hours.
- Conduct time-and-motion studies, line balancing, and workstation reconfiguration to optimize flow.
- Lead Kaizen events and waste-elimination projects (5S, root-cause analysis, SMED).
- Train shop-floor operators and team leads on standard work and continuous improvement tools.
- Collaborate with engineering, production planning, quality, and maintenance to resolve production issues and improve reliability.
Additional Responsibilities
- Measure and evaluate production costs and throughput against standards.
- Analyze production sequences to maximize utilization and efficiency.
- Review engineering drawings and product specs to establish quality and reliability objectives.
- Coordinate quality control activities to resolve production problems and minimize cost.
- Assist with equipment/layout drafting for efficient workspace design.
- Support documentation and continuous improvement within the site Quality Management System.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- ~2 years of experience in machining or a manufacturing environment (entry-level candidates with strong internships/co-ops considered).
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
- Six Sigma Green Belt (or higher) required — or willingness to obtain certification with employer support.
- Familiarity with machining processes (CNC, milling, turning, grinding) and GD&T/engineering drawings.
- Proficiency in time studies, capacity planning, and root-cause problem solving.
- Strong analytical skills with solid Excel experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) for layout and fixture design.
- Familiarity with VSM, SMED, 5S, TPM.
- Data analysis / visualization (Minitab, Power BI, etc.).
- Experience with Epicor ERP or comparable ERP/MES systems.
- Experience with ISO standards and internal auditing.
Work Environment
This role splits time between office and manufacturing environments. You may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, metals, and temperature extremes. Office settings are generally quiet; manufacturing areas are typically loud. Required safety PPE and site-specific orientation will be provided.
Compensation & Benefits
- Estimated pay: $75,562 per year (estimated; flexible based on experience).
