Overview
Confidential Client is seeking an Industrial Engineer to design, improve, and sustain safe, reliable manufacturing systems that integrate people, equipment, materials, and information. You will translate operating priorities into practical improvements across Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Cash and People (SQDCCP) with emphasis on work measurement, labor standards, capacity, productivity and material flow.
Compensation (Estimated)
- Estimated: $90,370 per year (estimated)
What You’ll Do
- Partner with operators, supervisors and value-stream leaders to solve problems at the gemba and establish repeatable, sustainable processes.
- Perform time studies, work sampling and method analysis to develop and maintain labor and setup standards.
- Build demonstrated-capacity models and identify bottlenecks; apply line balancing, setup reduction and workload redistribution to improve throughput.
- Design plant, cell and workstation layouts to improve safety, flow and space utilization.
- Map material and information flow and implement pull/replenishment systems to reduce WIP and lead time.
- Lead continuous improvement activities using PDCA, root-cause analysis, kaizen, 5S and value-stream mapping.
- Partner with Quality and Manufacturing Engineering to reduce defects, improve process capability and analyze equipment losses (OEE).
- Develop business cases that quantify baseline, investment, annual benefit and payback; verify realized savings with Finance.
- Maintain and update ERP routings, labor standards and capacity inputs through approved change controls.
- Support new-product introductions, production transfers and automation projects with layout, staffing and readiness analysis.
- Train operators and supervisors on revised methods and verify adoption across shifts.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
- Demonstrated manufacturing experience (employment, internship, or co-op) with exposure to work measurement, production analysis, or process improvement.
- Working knowledge of time studies, labor standards, line balancing, capacity analysis, layout design, ergonomics and Lean problem solving.
- Strong analytical ability to validate operational data and communicate clear recommendations to operators and managers.
- Proficiency with Excel and ability to read process layouts and engineering drawings; familiarity with ERP or manufacturing data systems.
- Ability to lead projects without direct supervisory authority and work effectively across shifts and functions.
Preferred Experience
- Two or more years of industrial/manufacturing engineering experience in a high-mix production environment.
- Experience with building products, metal fabrication, forming, finishing, assembly, packaging or comparable processes.
- Hands-on results using Lean or Six Sigma methods (certification is helpful but not required).
- Experience with CAD layout tools, Power BI, statistical analysis, discrete-event simulation or automation business cases.
- Experience validating financial benefits, updating ERP standards, or supporting launches and production transfers.
Work Requirements
- Primarily an on-site role with regular presence in active manufacturing and warehouse areas; may require participation across shifts.
- Travel to other facilities, suppliers or training locations as business needs require.
- Follow site safety requirements and use required personal protective equipment.
- Perform essential duties, including observing processes and accessing production areas, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Core Accountabilities
Safety, Ergonomics and Work Design
- Identify and reduce ergonomic, handling and process risks; integrate safe work methods into workstation design and standard work.
- Recommend practical engineering controls and verify effectiveness with affected employees.
- Ensure changes receive required safety, quality and technical reviews before implementation.
Work Measurement and Labor Standards
- Develop and maintain documented labor and setup standards using representative observations and justified allowances.
- Create standard work, work instructions and labor-balance charts; establish sustainable staffing models that reflect demand and operating constraints.
Capacity, Constraints and Production Flow
- Develop demonstrated-capacity models using mix, cycle times, changeovers, yield and downtime.
- Identify constraints and improve throughput while protecting total flow.
- Provide capacity and run-rate inputs to Materials and Planning for scheduling and backlog recovery.
Layout and Materials Flow
- Design layouts and material flow to reduce travel, handling and WIP.
- Establish pull, replenishment and inventory parameters with Materials where appropriate.
AS Lean Operating System and Problem Solving
- Support daily management, visual controls and leader standard work; translate gaps into scoped projects with baselines, owners and sustainment plans.
- Coach employees in practical use of tools and facilitate kaizen events and root-cause analysis.
Financial Benefits and Project Execution
- Build and present business cases with Finance; separate realized savings, cost avoidance and capacity release.
- Lead projects through implementation, training and operational handoff; verify sustained performance after completion.
Manufacturing Data, Launches and Capability
- Maintain engineering inputs to ERP routings, labor standards and capacity data.
- Use Excel, Power BI and approved manufacturing systems to analyze losses and trends and validate source data before recommending decisions.
- Support product launches, equipment installations and transfers; train and verify adoption across shifts.
Decision Rights and Escalation
- Stop work and escalate immediate safety risks per site policy.
- Own technical analysis and assigned deliverables; implement changes within approved scope and delegated authority.
- Escalate capacity shortfalls, unreliable standards or project risks early with quantified impacts and recommended countermeasures.
Performance Measures
Performance targets are set through the operating plan and approved project portfolio. Typical measures include:
- Safety: Ergonomic and process risk reduction and effectiveness of corrective actions.
- Quality: Verified impact on first-pass yield, scrap, rework and defects.
- Delivery: Throughput, cycle and setup time; contribution to on-time delivery.
- Cost: Finance-validated savings and labor productivity.
- Cash: Verified WIP and inventory reductions.
