Role overview

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Immigration Paralegal to support an immigration legal team in San Francisco, CA. This is a full-time role focused on client intake, preparing immigration filings (affirmative and defensive), legal administrative support, and community-facing clinics and events. The position emphasizes bilingual (English/Spanish) communication, attention to detail, and a commitment to serving immigrant and vulnerable communities.


Compensation

  • $24.04 – $27.40 per hour (hourly rate, as listed)

What you’ll do

  • Interview potential clients and conduct consultation intakes.
  • Organize, analyze, and prepare documents, forms, evidence, and declarations for affirmative applications and immigration court filings.
  • Conduct legal research and assist with legal writing.
  • Manage the program calendar: schedule client appointments, reminders, and court hearings.
  • Provide language interpretation and translate documents between English and Spanish for naturalization, adjustment of status, asylum interviews, and other proceedings.
  • Input and maintain client information, case notes, and follow-ups in the case management system.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and handle sensitive information securely.
  • Collect and validate data; prepare reports for leadership as requested.
  • Support and participate in legal clinics and community events (occasionally on weekends).
  • Participate in policy advocacy campaigns and other community initiatives.
  • Provide general administrative support to the immigration legal team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Legal administrative duties

  • Manage attorneys’ calendars, schedule meetings and court dates, and coordinate travel and logistics.
  • Answer and triage phone calls; manage client correspondence and communications.
  • Conduct initial client screenings and intakes.
  • Maintain reporting spreadsheets and client data.
  • Manage incoming/outgoing mail; ensure pleadings and filings are properly scanned and saved in client files.
  • Prepare and file documents with courts and regulatory agencies, including e-filing portals.
  • Serve as note-taker for legal team meetings and produce summaries as needed.
  • Maintain and comply with legal best practices for a nonprofit immigration practice; participate in peer review and legal training.
  • Assist with organizing legal clinic sign-in sheets, RSVPs, and outreach logistics.

Qualifications

  • Meets one of the pathways listed under California Business and Professions Code Section 6450(c) for paralegals (see examples below). If you are not familiar with the exact code, relevant paralegal certification, degree or adequate supervised law-related experience is required:
    • Certificate from an ABA-approved paralegal program; OR
    • Paralegal certificate or degree from an accredited postsecondary institution with at least 24 semester units in law-related courses; OR
    • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) plus at least one year of law-related experience supervised by an attorney, with a declaration from that attorney; OR
    • High school diploma/GED plus at least three years of supervised law-related experience (certain date restrictions apply per the statute).
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of formal and informal education is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish (bilingual required).
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Client-service oriented, proactive problem-solver, and motivated to serve immigrant communities.
