What You’ll Do

Our confidential client is seeking an entry-level Human Resources Specialist to provide administrative and operational support across core HR functions in a federal government contracting environment. This role is an excellent opportunity to build hands-on HR experience in onboarding, recruiting, benefits administration, recordkeeping, HR systems, and employee communications.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist with day-to-day HR activities and provide professional, responsive administrative support to employees, managers, and the HR team.
  • Support employee onboarding and offboarding, process personnel changes, and ensure new-hire documentation is complete and confidential.
  • Enter and update employee information in HR systems and maintain accurate personnel files and reports.
  • Support recruiting activities: post job openings, review applications, schedule interviews, communicate with candidates, and assist with new-hire processing.
  • Assist with benefits administration, annual open enrollment activities, leave documentation, and employee benefit communications.
  • Support HR compliance, policies, performance management processes, training coordination, and special HR projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Required / preferred:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 2–5 years of progressive HR experience preferred, ideally with exposure to federal government contracting, professional services, or other regulated environments.
  • Working knowledge of employee relations, benefits administration, performance management, recruiting, and HR compliance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, interpersonal, and customer-service skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and HR technology platforms. Experience with ADP Workforce Now, Unanet, JazzHR, or comparable HRIS/ATS tools is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple HR responsibilities independently, maintain strict confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and appropriately escalate sensitive issues.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Working Environment & Clearance

  • Employment type: Full-time (Hybrid).
  • Required clearance: None (but experience in federal contracting environments is preferred).
  • Location: Landover, MD — hybrid schedule as described by the client.

Compensation

  • Anticipated salary range: $65,000 to $72,800 annually (approximately $31.25 - $35.00 per hour).
  • Pay range will be disclosed consistent with applicable state and local pay transparency laws.

  • HUBZone requirement: The client is a certified HUBZone small business and may require proof of residency and documentation to verify HUBZone eligibility. Employees must provide requested documentation and maintain applicable residency requirements during employment.
