Role Overview

This confidential client is hiring a Human Resources Specialist I to support HR operations for the Technology and Operations department. This entry-level HR generalist role is eligible for teleworking (TELECOMMUTE) and provides hands-on experience across recruitment, onboarding, HRIS/data management, employee relations coordination, and HR program administration.

Salary: $59,550.40 - $73,840 per year (provided by source)


Key Responsibilities

  • Support recruitment activities: prepare and post job ads, screen applicants, schedule interviews, and communicate with candidates.
  • Coordinate onboarding: collect new-hire documents, arrange orientation logistics, and assist with system setup.
  • Maintain HR data: update employee records, enter HRIS changes, and prepare routine reports.
  • Assist with employee relations: gather initial information, schedule meetings, document cases, and prepare investigative and findings reports as needed.
  • Deliver training support and conduct policy-focused new hire orientation.
  • Review performance evaluation processes and explain appeal procedures.
  • Advise managers and employees on HR policies and relevant federal/state laws (ADA, FMLA, FLSA, EEO).
  • Administer HR programs including timesheet processes, exit interviews, and compliance monitoring (FMLA, Workers’ Compensation, ADA).
  • Respond to unemployment claims, open-records requests, subpoenas, and general employment inquiries.
  • Prepare correspondence, reports, and research on HR topics.
  • Provide general HR administrative support to senior HR staff and leadership.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For (Minimum Requirements)

  • Education & Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Personnel Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a directly related field AND one (1) year of directly related HR experience; OR
    • Any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the duties of the role.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience in recruitment, HR operations, and employee relations.
    • Comfort working in fast-paced, high-volume environments.
    • Familiarity with employment laws, HR best practices, and documentation standards.
    • SPHR or PHR certification a plus.
    • Valid Texas driver’s license preferred.
  • Knowledge & Skills:
    • Understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
    • HR principles and practices, record-keeping, and basic reporting.
    • Proficient with word processing, spreadsheets, and common HR software.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills; customer-service oriented.
    • Ability to analyze information, apply HR methods, problem-solve, and exercise sound judgment.
  • Working Conditions:
    • Physical ability to lift/carry items occasionally (20–50 lbs), good manual dexterity, and ability to perform routine office tasks.
    • Work hours generally 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday–Friday.
    • Criminal, driving, education, and employment background checks required.

Location & Work Type

This position is associated with Austin, TX (700 Lavaca St) and is telework-eligible (TELECOMMUTE). Final hiring, telework arrangement, and work location details will be determined by the confidential client.
