Overview
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Human Resource Consultant 1 to support HR operations including hiring, onboarding, payroll, benefits administration, and employee relations. This is a full-time, hybrid role (minimum 2 days per week in-office) supporting a residential habilitation center. The position provides hands-on HR experience and mentorship from experienced HR professionals.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as the primary HR contact for appointing authorities, managers, employees, and the public on classification, compensation, benefits, leave, hiring, and retention.
- Provide first-level guidance on HR policies, state and federal laws (WACs, RCWs) and collective bargaining agreements; escalate complex issues to senior HR staff.
- Oversee hiring processes (including internal transfer/bid processes), advise on screening, interview questions, references, and compensation for new hires.
- Process personnel and payroll actions for hires, promotions, transfers, and other appointments; resolve issues with Payroll and HRMS.
- Conduct onboarding, lead new-employee orientation, maintain staff records, and ensure I-9 / E-Verify and other compliance requirements are met.
- Assist employees with insurance, retirement, payroll forms and troubleshoot payroll/retirement system issues.
- Monitor eligibility for benefits, retirement, and leave usage; handle performance evaluations and employment verifications.
- Maintain personnel and medical files, generate reports, backup team members, attend relevant meetings, and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, social or organizational behavioral sciences, or related field — OR equivalent education/experience (year-for-year).
- Working knowledge of federal and state HR laws, policies, and common collective bargaining provisions.
- Experience or familiarity with onboarding, payroll processes, benefits administration, I-9 and E-Verify compliance.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to advise managers and employees clearly and professionally.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills; able to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
- Analytical skills to investigate issues, interpret data, and recommend solutions.
- Collaborative team orientation; able to work under pressure and manage interruptions.
Compensation & Schedule
- Salary: $4,517 - $6,075 per month (approx. $54,204 - $72,900 annually).
- Full-time; hybrid schedule required (minimum 2 days/week in the office).
- King County premium: King County employees may receive an additional 5% premium pay and are eligible for a transit ORCA card. Roles performed on-site at least three days/week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium.
