Role overview

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Human Factors & Experimental Design Specialist to support research, test, and evaluation activities for critical security systems in the transportation and infrastructure space. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Arlington, VA (Crystal City/Fort Myer area). The position requires regular client interaction, field and laboratory work, and travel (~25%).

What you’ll do

• Support test planning, experimental design, and study execution for operational assessments of security systems and prototypes.
• Collect, clean, reduce, and visualize experimental and observational data.
• Perform basic statistical analyses (power analyses, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing).
• Use Microsoft Excel for analysis and visualization; apply R or other analysis tools when appropriate.
• Prepare clear technical documentation and briefings (reports, slides) for internal teams, stakeholders, and clients.
• Communicate regularly with vendors, partners, and clients to support testing activities.
• Assist senior human factors and statistics subject-matter experts across a variety of test environments.

Key qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or a related field from an accredited college or university.
• 0–2 years of technical or research experience (entry-level candidates encouraged).
• Familiarity with basic statistical concepts and tests, including power analysis and confidence intervals.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for data analysis and visualization.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and comfort interacting directly with clients and stakeholders.
• Able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Willingness to travel approximately 25%.
• Must be a sole U.S. citizen with eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret security clearance and TSA security suitability.

Preferred qualifications

• Master of Science (MS) in Psychology or related field.
• Current, active DOD Secret clearance and/or TSA suitability.
• Experience with Transportation Security Equipment (TSE) test & evaluation or similar operational assessments.
• Additional proficiency in R or other statistical/data analysis packages.

Compensation & benefits

• Salary range: $65,300 - $93,000 per year (range provided by the client).
• Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company contributions, tuition assistance, paid time off, and flexible scheduling/hybrid work options as determined by role/team.

• This role is primarily on-site at the client location in Arlington, VA and involves work in field and laboratory environments.
