HSE Manager - Data Center Construction

What You’ll Do
This Project HSE Manager (Data Center Construction) will partner with the project team to lead health, safety and environmental (HS&E) initiatives at the jobsite. You will apply practical construction safety knowledge to prevent injuries, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote a positive safety culture across trades working on data center builds for our confidential client.
- Serve as the on-site safety resource for project teams and subcontractors
- Lead frequent site safety walks and inspections and report findings to project leadership
- Deliver site-specific safety orientations and toolbox talks to craft workers and vendors
- Develop, update and implement the Project Safety Management Plan and Project Environmental Management Plan
- Facilitate the client’s safety management system and illness-prevention practices on the project
- Oversee incident response, incident investigations, corrective actions and workers’ compensation coordination
- Maintain project safety documentation, compliance records and daily logs
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine and documented safety inspections of the project and adjacent property
- Ensure site access, PPE use, and hazard controls meet project requirements and OSHA standards
- Coordinate emergency response and incident notification, and complete all required investigative documentation
- Track and report safety metrics, near-misses, observations and corrective actions to project leadership
- Support subcontractor safety prequalification and enforce site-specific safety expectations
- Use construction safety software and standard office applications to manage records and communications
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum of one year of full-time project safety experience (Step I entry-level; Step II/Sr. levels available for more experienced candidates)
- Certifications preferred but not required: STSC, CHST, ASP, CSP
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with correct grammar and documentation practices
- Proficient with Microsoft Office; comfortable learning and using construction safety apps/software
- High integrity in incident reporting and adherence to safety policies
- Bilingual candidates preferred (where noted for project needs)
- Must be authorized to work in the United States; may be subject to background checks and drug screening where permitted by law
Physical Requirements
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (steel-toed boots, hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection, vest, etc.)
- May frequently reach above shoulder height, stoop, kneel, bend and climb ladders or stairs occasionally
- Regular use of hands for grasping, lifting, carrying or handling objects; may lift/push/pull occasionally
- Ability to sit, stand or walk short distances for extended portions of the workday
- Frequent interaction with workers, subcontractors and vendors; use of telephone and electronic devices for communications
Safety Level
Safety-Sensitive — this role includes tasks that can affect the safety and health of the employee and others (operation of equipment, working at heights, handling materials, etc.). Compliance with all site safety standards and procedures is required.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Experience specifically on data center construction projects or other high-security commercial builds
- Prior success implementing Project Safety Management Plans on mid-to-large construction sites
- Experience with incident investigation methodologies and corrective action management systems
