Role Overview
Confidential Client is seeking a part-time Histopath Tech I to join their hospital laboratory team in Baltimore, MD. This position supports tissue preparation and histology workflows to enable pathologist review and accurate diagnostic testing. The role is scheduled as a day shift (8:00 AM–12:00 PM, Monday–Friday) and may consider candidates at Histopath Tech I, II, or III levels depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare tissue samples for microscopic examination by a pathologist.
- Perform routine histology procedures independently and exercise sound judgment.
- Maintain and program tissue processors.
- Perform special stain techniques and prepare staining solutions.
- Decalcify bone specimens and perform modified H&E staining techniques.
- Operate automated slide and cassette printers.
- Follow laboratory safety, quality, and documentation procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
Education (one of the following):
- Associates degree in Histotechnology. OR
- Associates or Bachelor's degree with at least 60 semester hours (including at least 12 semester hours combined in biology and chemistry), plus successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited Histotechnology training program or a clinical histology rotation in a NAACLS-accredited laboratory that grants ASCP eligibility. OR
- Equivalent military certificate with relevant histopath/hospital specialty and training in biology and chemistry that qualifies the candidate to sit for the certification exam.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of one year of related laboratory or healthcare experience required.
- A clinical internship as part of a NAACLS-accredited program may count as one year of clinical experience.
- If degree/program certification is not completed, at least one year of clinical histology work experience is required, including a minimum of six months in a JHH laboratory (or equivalent verification process as required by the hiring client).
- Advancement opportunities exist for candidates who meet education and performance requirements.
Certification:
- Eligibility to sit for HT(ASCP) certification is preferred but not required.
Schedule & Compensation
- Part-time, contract role — Day shift (8:00 AM–12:00 PM), Monday–Friday.
- Salary range: $26.58/hour — $43.89/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience.
- The Hospital may modify employee schedules as needed.
