What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking a Health and Wellness Coach to deliver evidence-based coaching that helps clients set and achieve health goals. You will work with individuals, couples and groups to promote positive lifestyle change and support overall well-being.

• Deliver one-on-one, couple and group health and wellness coaching using established coaching techniques
• Assess client needs and co-create personalized, action-oriented health plans
• Promote positive lifestyle choices and behavior change using motivational strategies
• Identify internal and external resources to support client goals
• Document client interactions and care plans using appropriate IT systems and clinical documentation tools
• Communicate clearly and professionally across written and verbal channels with clients and clinical teams

Who You Are / Qualifications

Applicants must meet the Basic Requirements below. All references to employer or program materials should be provided as part of the application package (transcripts, NBHWC documentation, etc.).

• United States Citizenship required (non-citizens may be appointed under limited VA policy exceptions)
• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in behavioral/social science or related field — official transcripts required
  • OR an equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating knowledge of behavioral/social sciences
  • OR four years of relevant experience equivalent to a major in the field
• Candidates must be currently certified by the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) OR meet NBHWC eligibility and obtain certification per the temporary appointment rules below
• Demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs):
  • Knowledge of health and wellness coaching processes and techniques
  • Ability to promote positive lifestyle choices and behavior change
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across multiple modalities
  • Skill in developing comprehensive, personalized health plans with measurable goals
  • Ability to identify and leverage resources to achieve client health goals
  • Comfort using IT equipment and emerging technologies for documentation and coaching

Grade & experience guidance:

• Full performance level: GS-9; selection may occur at GS-7 through GS-9
• GS-7: Meets basic requirements (no additional experience required beyond education)
• GS-9: One year of creditable experience equivalent to the next lower grade plus demonstrated advanced KSAs

Certification, Temporary Appointments & Conditions

• Non-certified applicants who meet NBHWC eligibility may be given a temporary appointment under 38 U.S.C. § 7405(c)(2)
  • Temporary appointment prerequisites: completion of an NBHWC-approved training program (certificate or NBHWC exam-eligibility letter required), completion of 50 coaching sessions (may be completed during the 1-year appointment if not already finished), and an associate’s degree or 4,000 hours of work experience
• Non-certified hires must work under the supervision of a certified Health and Wellness Coach and may not be promoted until certification is obtained
• Temporary appointments may not be extended beyond one year or converted to a new temporary appointment
• Failure to obtain required certification within the agreed timeframe may result in termination

Compensation & Logistics

• Location: Amarillo, TX (on-site role)
• Employment type: Full-time
• Salary range: $50,460 - $80,243 per year (range provided by Confidential Client)
• The actual grade at selection may be GS-7 to GS-9 depending on qualifications and experience
• Physical requirements: No pre-placement physical exam required; accommodation considered where appropriate
• Required application documents: Official transcripts and NBHWC certification documentation or eligibility evidence (if applicable)
