What You’ll Do

As a Ground Software Engineer on the Ground Software team you will design, build, and maintain the software used to assemble, test, and operate satellites and customer payloads. You will work across backend and frontend stacks, collaborate closely with Mission Operations and Flight Software teams, and support both internal and external customers.

• Design and implement software that supports build, test, and on-orbit operations for vehicles and customer payloads
• Build mission automation, command-and-control, and operational tooling for constellation scale
• Collaborate with Mission Operators, Flight Software, and external customers to scope solutions and deliver reliable software
• Participate in architecture, design, and code reviews to align stakeholders and ensure maintainability
• Work across a Rust backend and TypeScript/Vue frontend to deliver features and operational improvements
• Support software in an on-call rotation tied to ground-test activities and on-orbit operations
• Mentor teammates and help grow engineering best practices and a strong team culture

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a STEM discipline — OR 3+ years of professional software engineering experience
• 3+ years of professional experience building production software systems
• Experience designing and implementing backend services and APIs (HTTP or gRPC)
• Familiarity with modern frontend development (JavaScript/TypeScript and frameworks such as Vue or React)
• Practical experience with version control, CI/CD, build/deploy pipelines, and monitoring
• Strong debugging and systems-thinking skills; comfortable operating in test and live mission environments
• Authorization to work in the United States (see Export & Eligibility section)

Nice-to-Have

• Experience working on space missions or the satellite ground segment
• Experience with Rust or other statically typed backend languages (Go, C++, Java, C#, TypeScript)
• Familiarity with SQL databases (PostgreSQL or similar)
• Experience designing event-driven or streaming architectures (NATS, Pulsar, or similar)
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes for deployment and scaling
• Familiarity with WebSockets or Server-Sent Events (SSE) for real-time telemetry
• Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and compliance frameworks (SOC2, FedRAMP)
• Understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, QUIC)

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary range: $123,000 - $150,000 per year, plus equity
• Salary will be determined by skills, experience, and other permissible factors

Location & Work Arrangement

This role is based in Seattle, WA with an expectation of in-person collaboration. The position is hybrid — typically requiring in-office presence approximately 3 days per week — and may require periodic travel to the client’s headquarters in Torrance, CA for team events, integration, or launch/test activities. Candidates must be able to support this hybrid arrangement.
