Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Grid Operations Engineer I to support Distribution SCADA and Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) modeling and automation for Distribution Control Center operations in Plainfield, IN. This role focuses on building and validating distribution grid models, developing scripts and small tools, and creating UI content that supports real-time monitoring and operator workflows.
What you’ll do
- Support modeling activities for Distribution SCADA and ADMS applications used by the Distribution Control Center.
- Create, maintain, validate, and test data models that represent the electric distribution grid (single-line, device data, connectivity).
- Develop and maintain scripts and small programs that interact with SQL databases and structured files (XML, CSV) to automate model builds and validations.
- Produce and update graphical UI content for operators (single-line displays, data tables, visual indicators).
- Troubleshoot modeling, data integration, and application functionality issues that affect control center operations.
- Document modeling logic, system configurations, scripting solutions, and technical procedures.
- Collaborate with modeling, operations, IT, and engineering teams to support integrated grid applications and data flows.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts to increase automation, model accuracy, and system reliability.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for well-defined SCADA and ADMS modeling problems and data integration tasks.
- Assist in planning, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring modeling and scripting work across SCADA/ADMS environments.
- Prepare accurate technical reports, documentation, calculations, and sketches related to modeling and system configurations.
- Execute routine engineering assignments with supervision and grow toward more independent work.
- Ensure scripts and tools operate with minimal impact to production systems through proper testing and change control.
- Communicate clearly—both written and verbal—with cross-functional teams and maintain accurate records.
Preferred qualifications
- Understanding of basic engineering theories and practices.
- Experience creating scripts using Python, PowerShell, PERL, or C#.
- Experience with relational databases (MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
- Experience using graphical design tools to create UI content (single-line displays, tabular views).
- Good troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Passing grade on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam (preferred).
- Familiarity with project management basics.
- Experience in the utility industry is a plus.
- Ability to work well with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Working conditions & location
- Hybrid — work from both remote and onsite locations following onboarding. Hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated facility in Plainfield, IN.
- Some business units may require visits to field sites and/or plants.
- Travel: 5–15% (typical).
Compensation (estimated)
- Estimated base: $105,521 per year (estimated).
Minimum / specific requirements
- Must have obtained a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (preference for Electrical Engineering) — graduating no later than August 2027.
- A Master’s degree in Engineering may be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.
- This role requires the ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future.
