Graduate Software Engineer
The Graduate Software Engineer role at Confidential Client involves deploying AI-driven automation systems directly with customer finance teams to streamline complex workflows such as month-end close and invoice matching. The position requires a versatile engineer skilled across backend, frontend, and ML-adjacent technologies, who can independently manage customer engagements, align multiple stakeholders, and deliver impactful demos that translate technical solutions into business value. This on-site role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with customers in a seed-stage startup environment, emphasizing both technical excellence and strong communication skills.

The Role
This is a deployment-first, customer-facing software engineering role (forward-deployed engineering). You will embed with enterprise teams, build tailored agents and integrations, and run deployments end-to-end. This position is in-office in San Francisco, CA.
Salary range (provided by the confidential client): $150,000–$250,000 per year.
What You’ll Do
- Embed with customer teams (particularly finance/accounting) to map workflows, capture tribal knowledge, and remove manual work.
- Build, customize, and deploy agents and integrations that operate across customers' systems and edge cases.
- Work across the stack — backend services, frontend demos, and ML-adjacent configuration or fine-tuning.
- Align multiple stakeholders (finance, IT, product, security) to drive fast time-to-value for deployments.
- Feed real-world patterns back into the product roadmap and help prioritize platform improvements.
- Present demos and run customer-facing sessions with clear narration, pacing, and visual clarity.
- Run engagements independently after a short ramp / shadowing period.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong generalist engineer — comfortable across backend (Node, Postgres), frontend (React + TypeScript), and ML-adjacent work (fine-tuning, agent configuration).
- High technical bar with the ability to close customer gaps quickly; pragmatic problem-solving.
- Excellent communicator — translates between technical and non-technical stakeholders clearly and persuasively.
- High EQ and commercial instinct — focused on business outcomes rather than just technical metrics.
- Good design and presentation taste for customer-facing demos (visual clarity, demo pacing, narrative).
- Self-directed, comfortable in ambiguity, and able to own an engagement end-to-end.
Qualifications
- 0–2 years experience (new grads and candidates with internship experience encouraged).
- Backgrounds that fit particularly well: solutions/growth engineering, technical founders, forward-deployed engineering or technical consulting with direct customer-facing experience.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred but not strictly required.
Nice to Have
- Experience at teams or firms that pioneered forward-deployed engineering or technical consulting.
- Prior work on customer-facing demos or designing intuitive workflows for non-technical users.
- Familiarity with production integrations into enterprise systems (ERP, accounting tools, CRMs).
Compensation & Location
- Visible salary range: $150,000–$250,000 / year.
- Location: San Francisco, CA — this role is in-office.
- The confidential client is an early-stage (seed) company focused on building AI systems that eliminate entire classes of manual work (e.g., reconciliation, invoice/PO matching, month-end close).
Benefits
- All meals covered
- Full health coverage
- 401(k)
- Unlimited PTO
- Relocation support
- New computer and gear
- Team off-sites
Visa & Work Authorization
Visa sponsorship is available for this role. The confidential client will consider candidates who require sponsorship.
