What You’ll Do
This is an entry‑level Graduate Nurse (GN) role in a hospital graduate nurse program. Working under the supervision of experienced Registered Nurses (RNs) and unit leadership, you will develop clinical skills and provide compassionate, safe patient care while progressing toward independent practice.
- Provide professional nursing care to a diverse patient population under RN supervision
- Perform nursing assessments and assist with exams, treatments and procedures
- Administer medications and document care in medical records per policies
- Educate patients and families about care plans and discharge instructions
- Communicate and collaborate with physicians and the interprofessional health care team to support continuity and quality of care
- Participate in skills assessments, competency evaluations and professional development activities
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school preferred; associates degree considered
Experience
- New graduate or zero years of RN experience accepted
- Completion of nursing program with clinical rotations in a hospital setting
FLSA status: Non-exempt
Licenses & Certifications
- GN — Graduate Nurse Temporary / State licensure (Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation) required prior to or upon hire as applicable
- BLS — Basic Life Support (AHA) or BLS Instructor (AHA)
Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrates progressive clinical competence through ongoing skills assessments
- Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading and writing English for safe patient care
- Therapeutic communication and patient/family education skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time, and work collaboratively within a care team
- Developing critical thinking and clinical judgment consistent with the Nurse Practice Act
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook
