Position Overview
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Graduate Engineer to support municipal public-works and infrastructure projects in Spring Lake Park, MN. This role combines office-based design and documentation with field work such as construction inspection and surveying. You’ll gain hands-on experience in municipal project design, MnDOT reporting, construction administration, and stakeholder communications while working alongside experienced engineers, technicians, contractors, and residents.
What You’ll Do
- Assist in designing municipal improvement projects (streets, sidewalks, trails, sanitary and storm sewer, watermain).
- Prepare feasibility analyses, cost estimates, engineering plans, specifications, and design documents.
- Support project administration to track progress, ensure conformance with plans/specifications, and maintain safety standards.
- Review non-City construction plans (grading, drainage, erosion control) for compliance with City standards and policies.
- Collect data and assist with Municipal State Aid and MnDOT reporting requirements (e.g., Certification of Mileage, Needs Update, Traffic Volumes).
- Perform or assist with construction inspections for street reconstruction, sanitary sewer, water main, and storm sewer projects.
- Prepare technical reports, memoranda, and project documentation as required.
- Coordinate with permitting agencies, government partners, contractors, consultants, businesses, and residents.
- Provide guidance to engineering technicians and respond to public information requests.
- Attend and present at public meetings as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program.
- Valid Minnesota driver’s license without restrictions.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or ability to pass within six months of hire.
- Proficiency with standard office software (Microsoft Office Suite preferred).
- Must obtain and maintain MnDOT Technical Certification and University of Minnesota Erosion Control (SWPPP) Certification within one year of hire.
Preferred / Desired Qualifications
- 1–3 years related civil engineering experience (municipal/public works experience preferred).
- Experience in construction management and construction inspection.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or MicroStation, GPS, GIS, and terrain modeling software.
- Experience with street, water and sewer system projects and asphalt materials.
- Experience reviewing or preparing construction plans.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Working knowledge of MnDOT standard specifications and local utility specifications.
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to highways, bridges, drainage, land acquisition, and traffic control.
- Basic understanding of state aid funding programs and project approval processes.
- Ability to read, interpret, and develop construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and public relations ability.
- Ability to work under limited supervision and manage competing priorities.
- Willingness to work occasional extended hours and to perform fieldwork in varied conditions.
- Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
Compensation & Employment Type
- Employment type: FULL_TIME
- Expected hiring range: $39.67 - $51.76 per hour. Well-qualified applicants may be considered for the role of Civil Engineer at a higher rate of pay.
