Role overview
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Graduate Engineer (Civil) to support water and wastewater infrastructure projects in the Northeast Region. This role is based in Richmond, VA (office), with additional office locations possible in Charlotte, NC and Cary, NC. Relocation assistance may be available. This is an early-career, hands-on engineering opportunity ideal for recent graduates with a bachelor’s degree in engineering who want practical project experience in water/wastewater design and delivery.
What you’ll do
- Support multidisciplinary project teams on the design and construction of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Review and apply departmental design guides, standards, engineering codes, and internal procedures.
- Participate in project coordination meetings and help resolve design challenges while incorporating client requirements.
- Perform routine research and recommend appropriate equipment, materials, and system approaches.
- Prepare basic engineering calculations using standard methods for hydraulic and structural analyses.
- Help develop project schedules, support cost estimating, and assist in preparing engineering deliverables.
- Learn and apply engineering software, design tools, and digital delivery methods.
- Focus on supporting internal project leadership while building awareness of external client goals and drivers.
Preferred qualifications
- Coursework or experience in water/wastewater engineering, hydraulics, and fluid mechanics.
- 3.0 GPA preferred.
- Basic knowledge of engineering design principles, construction practices, and applicable codes/standards.
- Familiarity with common engineering software and digital design/delivery workflows.
- Strong communicator, collaborative mindset, and a desire to learn on the job.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program (domestic or international equivalent).
- Ability to complete pre-employment screening where required (e.g., background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records) in compliance with applicable law.
- Authorization to work in the U.S. as required by law (note: the client has indicated no visa sponsorship is available for this role).
Work environment & physical demands
- This role is primarily office-based with possible site visits; typical fieldwork may include inspections at construction sites and utilities.

Compensation & benefits
- Annual compensation range for the Richmond, VA location: $77,900.00 - $95,910.15 (in accordance with local pay transparency requirements).
