Role overview

Confidential Client is seeking an Entry-Level Graduate Engineer (Construction Engineering) for a hybrid role based in Baltimore, MD. This position blends hands-on field inspection and construction support with office-based engineering, documentation, and coordination tasks. This is an excellent opportunity for recent civil or construction engineering graduates to gain practical project delivery experience.


What you’ll do

Field responsibilities

  • Assist with inspection of construction activities to verify compliance with plans, specifications, permits, and contract requirements.
  • Observe and document contractor operations, work progress, and site conditions.
  • Perform quantity measurements and assist with verification of contractor payment quantities.
  • Monitor construction materials, workmanship, and installation practices.
  • Coordinate and document material testing and quality control activities.
  • Prepare daily inspection reports, field notes, photographs, and project records.
  • Support monitoring of traffic control, erosion & sediment control, and job-site safety practices.
  • Attend project meetings and communicate issues to senior staff.
  • Support project closeout tasks, punch-list inspections, and as-built documentation.

Office responsibilities

  • Review construction plans, specifications, shop drawings, and submittals.
  • Prepare reports, spreadsheets, estimates, and project correspondence.
  • Maintain electronic project files and construction documentation systems.
  • Assist with schedule tracking, quantity reconciliation, and project record management.
  • Support project managers and resident engineers with administrative and technical tasks.
  • Compile field data and assist in preparation of project status reports.
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, utility companies, and regulatory agencies as required.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and work outdoors in varying weather.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Preferred

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Internship or co-op experience in construction, transportation, or civil engineering.
  • Familiarity with Procore, Primavera, or other construction management platforms.
  • Experience with CAD, GIS, or related engineering software.
  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety certification.

Physical requirements & work environment

  • Ability to walk uneven terrain, climb stairs, and navigate active construction sites.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
  • Hybrid work model: on-site field work combined with office/remote documentation and coordination.
  • Expected travel: local and regional (Greater Baltimore Area).

Compensation & benefits

  • Target pay: $31.50 - $35.00 per hour.
