Overview

Confidential Client is seeking a detail-oriented Junior GovCon Billing / Accounts Receivable Clerk (Contract, Part-time) to support government contract billing, invoice submission, payment processing, AR reconciliations, and expense processing. This role is based in Springfield, VA and is ideal for an entry- to mid-level accounting professional with hands-on AR or government-contract billing experience.


What You’ll Do

  • Read and interpret customer and government contracts (CLINs, funding, period of performance, billing terms).
  • Set up customers, contracts, and billing terms accurately in the accounting/ERP system.
  • Prepare, process, and submit invoices for labor, travel, other direct costs, and reimbursable expenses.
  • Submit and track government invoices via WAWF, IPP, or other customer portals; monitor status, rejections, suspensions, and approvals.
  • Record and apply customer payments; enter AR transactions and maintain customer/contract records.
  • Perform routine AR reconciliations, aging reports, and cash application tasks.
  • Assist with collections follow-up and research past-due accounts.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Contracts, and Finance to resolve billing issues and contract questions.
  • Process employee travel and expense reports; review receipts and code expenses per policy and contract requirements.
  • Support monthly/quarterly/year-end close activities and provide documentation for audits.
  • Maintain organized electronic and physical financial records and produce basic AR reports.

Required Qualifications

  • Authorization to permanently work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in billing, accounts receivable, bookkeeping, accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Experience reading contracts and using contract terms to establish billing requirements.
  • Experience setting up customers and contracts in an accounting or ERP system.
  • Familiarity with government contract billing types: Firm-Fixed-Price (FFP), Time & Materials (T&M), Level of Effort (LOE), and Milestone billing.
  • Experience preparing and submitting invoices to government or commercial customers; WAWF/IPP experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to handle confidential financial information.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills; able to work independently and collaboratively.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
  • 2–5 years of AR, billing, or government contract billing experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, NetSuite, QuickBooks, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar ERP/accounting systems.
  • Demonstrated experience submitting and tracking invoices through WAWF, IPP, or other government portals.
  • Experience with accounts receivable aging, reconciliations, collections, and cash application.
  • Experience in a government contracting or professional services environment.

Hours & Compensation

  • Employment type: Contractor — Part-time (typical eligibility note: benefits available to employees working 20+ hours/week).
  • Estimated annualized pay (site estimate): $56,991 per year (estimated). Actual pay and benefits will be set by our client and may vary based on experience and hours.
