GIS Technician I

What You'll Do
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level GIS Technician to support engineering and utility mapping teams. In this role you will produce cartographic deliverables, support GIS database maintenance, and help build web mapping tools that track project status and support construction and engineering workflows.
- Prepare and update drawings using ArcMap/ArcGIS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other electronic drawing packages.
- Build and maintain ArcGIS Online webmaps, webapps, and dashboards for client and internal use.
- Place and maintain graphical features in client GIS systems (ArcFM, Intergraph FRAMME, Smallworld, G-Tech, etc.).
- Learn and apply client construction standards, naming conventions, and drawing standards (fonts, line weights, border sheets).
- Create documentation and reports using Microsoft Office and industry tools (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, Fulcrum, Nitro Pro, Adobe Acrobat).
- Support field data collection workflows, including GPS device use and post-processing.
- Maintain and post mapping work for client GIS applications and assist others with data preparation.
- Complete QA/QC steps and meet established deadlines; perform other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Follow established processes for routine GIS/cartographic production.
- Support Designers, Engineers, GIS Management, and other staff in a production-level team environment.
- Track project status using web-based mapping tools and contribute to accurate deliverables for clients.
- Maintain drawing and data quality through consistent standards and QA/QC.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree preferred. Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geospatial Science, Geography, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or GIS certification is a plus.
- 0–2 years of experience using GIS and/or CAD programs; experience in the GIS utility industry preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good written and verbal communication; ability to read and interpret technical documents.
- Basic math skills and understanding of spatial concepts, projections, and query operations.

- ArcGIS Desktop / ArcMap and ArcGIS Online

Compensation & Schedule
- Employment type: Full time
- Estimated pay (from source): $77,178 per year — estimated. Actual pay and benefits are set by the Confidential Client and may vary by experience and location.
Physical & Work Environment
- Frequent sitting, standing, and walking; occasional stooping or crouching.
- Typical office noise level with occasional outdoor fieldwork.
- Occasional work in wet or outdoor weather conditions when supporting field collection.
