What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring a Geotechnical Field Technician to perform on-site construction observation and materials testing in and around Laurel, MD. This hands-on role supports geotechnical and civil engineering projects and is a great opportunity for entry-level candidates or experienced technicians who want field experience and career growth.

  • Perform field sampling and testing of soil, concrete, and other construction materials
  • Conduct construction observation and document field conditions and test results
  • Operate field testing equipment safely and maintain testing logs and chain-of-custody records
  • Help prepare field reports and communicate findings to project engineers and supervisors
  • Follow established testing standards and site safety requirements
  • Travel to project sites within the service area; maintain vehicle and equipment as required

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma required; college degree preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, or related field preferred but not required
  • NICET, ACI, WACEL, or similar certifications are a plus
  • Must have a reliable vehicle and a favorable driving record
  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions
  • Ability to regularly lift ~60 pounds and occasionally move 80+ pounds
  • Available to work on-site starting at 7:00 AM; occasional weekend work may be required
  • Overtime is expected at times and is paid at time-and-a-half
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. (No visa sponsorship available)

Preferred Skills & Certifications

  • Field testing: soil classification, standard penetration tests (SPT), and concrete testing (slump, cylinders)
  • Construction observation and reporting
  • Familiarity with materials testing standards and ASTM procedures
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in teams on active sites

Compensation & Location

  • Estimated pay: $66,995 per year (estimate provided by source)
  • Location: On-site in Laurel, MD (Confidential Client project locations within the region)
  • Employment type: Full-time
