Position Overview

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Geotechnical Engineer I to support geotechnical and civil engineering projects. Reporting to licensed Professional Engineers, you’ll help produce constructible engineering deliverables — including site visits, technical reports, design calculations, and construction documents — while gaining experience in both office and field settings and pursuing professional licensure (EIT/PE).


Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist with client communication and attend client or public meetings as needed.
  • Prepare engineering plans, technical reports, and construction documents using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other engineering software.
  • Visit project and construction sites to collect data, observe conditions, and support field testing or construction observation.
  • Contribute to project quality-control activities; ensure assigned work is accurate and complete.
  • Collect and analyze site data, define technical problems, and draw technically sound conclusions under supervision.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, regulations, and applicable design standards.
  • Assist with preparation/modification of specifications, permitting documentation, quantity estimates, and construction cost estimates.
  • Prepare design computations and project deliverables under the guidance of a Professional Engineer.
  • Communicate status, schedule, and budget updates to project managers and practice leaders.
  • Manage time effectively to meet project schedules and budgets.
  • Participate in training and professional development; actively pursue Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification and eventual PE licensure.
  • Follow established guidelines, company policies, and safety procedures; perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • 0–2 years of engineering experience (entry-level).
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred or actively pursuing.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites; occasional overnight travel may be required.
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D (or related engineering software).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform work in both office and outdoor field environments, including lifting up to 25 lbs and working in varying weather and construction-site conditions.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods at a computer and also stand/walk/bend/stoop as required for fieldwork.

Location & Travel

This role is based in Lonsdale, TN. Regular travel to local project sites is expected and occasional overnight travel may be required.
