What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Geologist to join their Ann Arbor, MI office to support environmental site investigations and remediation projects. This hybrid role combines fieldwork and office-based tasks while providing professional development and mentorship.

• Apply foundational geology and hydrogeology principles to support site investigations, environmental sampling, and data collection.
• Assist with on-site investigations of soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, and vapor; observe drilling and monitoring-well installations.
• Prepare field notes, drilling logs, geologic maps, cross-sections, data summaries, and draft report sections.
• Help coordinate field activities, logistics, contractor oversight, and equipment preparation.
• Contribute to data analysis, development of site conceptual models, and remediation approach recommendations.
• Communicate status updates and technical summaries to project managers, stakeholders, and clients.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and support safe field operations.

About the Opportunity

This is a hybrid, full-time position based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Typical expectations include:

• Hybrid work arrangement (split between office and remote/home work as agreed with the project manager).
• Fieldwork year-round with travel required (up to ~50% travel and as much as ~75% field time depending on project needs).
• Work in varied outdoor and industrial environments, including construction and remediation sites; roles may include occasional exposure to hazardous materials (safety training provided).
• Ability to perform an OSHA-mandated physical exam and participate in client-requested drug screenings when required.
• Must be able to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Physical requirements:

• Conduct fieldwork in variable weather and terrain.
• Lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds.
• Work independently in remote locations and remain mobile (standing, walking, kneeling, crouching) for extended periods.
• Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and operate or work around environmental monitoring and sampling equipment.

Qualifications

Required core competencies:

• Bachelor’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, geological engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and data summarization.
• Current, valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by the Confidential Client now or in the future.
• Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn and work safely in both field and office environments.

Helpful (not required):

• Master’s degree in a relevant geoscience or engineering field.
• 1–3 years of environmental site experience or similar field experience.
• 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
• Fundamentals of Geology (FG) certification or ability to obtain within one year.
• Familiarity with environmental regulations and sampling protocols.

Compensation & Benefits

• Anticipated base salary range: $65,000–$75,000 annually (actual pay will vary based on experience, education, skills, and other factors). This position is classified as exempt (salaried) under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
