What You’ll Do

The Game UI Designer (contract, entry-level) will design clear, engaging user interfaces for games and interactive experiences. You will work remotely with cross-disciplinary teams to translate gameplay needs into cohesive visual systems and implementable assets.

  • Create UI layouts, wireframes, mockups, and visual specifications for game screens and HUDs
  • Translate design requirements and user flows into consistent UI systems and pattern libraries
  • Prepare production-ready assets and documentation for engineers and implementers
  • Collaborate with game designers, artists, and engineers to refine interaction, timing, and visual clarity
  • Iterate designs quickly based on playtesting feedback, analytics, and usability observations
  • Ensure UI supports accessibility, information hierarchy, and responsive/mobile contexts
  • Communicate progress and blockers clearly in remote, cross-time-zone workflows

Qualifications (Required)

  • Strong visual design and UX fundamentals applied to games or interactive media
  • Portfolio demonstrating UI/UX work for games, mobile apps, or playful digital experiences
  • Ability to produce wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and polished UI assets
  • Proficiency with industry-standard design tools (Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar)
  • Understanding of user flows, information hierarchy, and accessibility best practices
  • Basic implementation awareness (how UI assets are integrated by engineers)
  • Proven communication and collaboration skills for remote teams
  • Comfortable iterating rapidly from playtesting and feedback

Nice-to-Haves

  • Familiarity with game engines (Unity, Unreal) and their UI systems (uGUI, UI Toolkit, UMG)
  • Experience designing UI for mobile games or responsive play experiences
  • Experience prototyping animations/interactions and motion design for UI
  • Basic front-end/implementation skills (C#, UXML, HTML/CSS) or experience handing off specs to engineers
