Role overview
This is an early-career Front End Developer (HMI/Desktop Applications) role building operator-facing desktop software used to control and monitor unmanned aircraft systems. You will primarily develop data-driven desktop applications and user interfaces using C# and C++ to present telemetry, sensor, and network information in clear, actionable ways. This role is a strong fit for developers who enjoy working close to hardware and aerospace systems while growing skills in UI development, real-time visualization, and modern engineering practices.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain desktop applications (C# and C++) that support control and monitoring of unmanned aircraft systems.
- Build intuitive GUIs, dashboards, and HMI components that present telemetry, sensor data, and network status.
- Implement real‑time visualizations and data-driven features for operator awareness and decision-making.
- Integrate embedded, systems, and network data into operator-facing software in collaboration with other engineering teams.
- Debug and optimize application performance, responsiveness, and data handling using Visual Studio and related tools.
- Participate in unit and integration testing to ensure software reliability and robustness.
- Use Git for source control, branching, and code management.
- Develop prototypes, simulations, or game-like interfaces to validate new concepts.
- Work with field operators and stakeholders to gather feedback and iterate on usability.
- Document application workflows, features, and troubleshooting steps for maintainability.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
- Approximately 2 years of software development experience (this can include internships, co-ops, capstone projects, or similar hands-on work).
- Practical experience with C# or C++ through coursework or projects.
- Solid grasp of object-oriented programming (OOP) and software engineering fundamentals.
- Experience developing desktop applications or GUIs (dashboards, simulations, games, or similar interfaces).
- Familiarity with UI/UX or HMI concepts and best practices.
- Comfortable using Visual Studio as a primary development environment.
- Strong debugging skills and experience diagnosing application issues.
- Experience working with data-driven applications and displaying sensor/telemetry streams.
- Experience with Git or similar version control systems.
Preferred / Nice-to-have
- Experience with WPF, WinForms, MFC, or similar desktop UI frameworks.
- Exposure to Figma or other UI/UX design and prototyping tools.
- Experience with real-time systems, telemetry visualization, or sensor data pipelines.
- Familiarity with unit testing and integration testing frameworks.
- Prior work on dashboards, simulations, or interactive UIs.
- Understanding of network-status monitoring and integrating network information into apps.
- Interest or experience in aerospace, unmanned systems, or working close to hardware.
- Motivation to learn and apply full lifecycle software engineering best practices.
