Role Overview

The Forward Deployed Software Engineer (FDSE) will be a hands-on, customer-facing engineer who deploys to customer sites across the New England area to solve high-impact problems. You will work directly with manufacturing, robotics, aerospace, and autonomous-systems customers to understand their operations, design tailored solutions, and deliver production-quality software that integrates with the client’s platform. This role combines field engineering, full-stack development, data wrangling, and close collaboration with customer teams.

Travel: up to 40% to customer sites across New England.

What You’ll Do

• Serve as a deployed technical expert, providing hands-on assistance for implementation, usage, and extension of the client’s platform.
• Collaborate with customers to investigate supply-chain, manufacturing, or operational pain points and design practical software solutions.
• Build custom web apps, data pipelines, and integrations that solve customer-facing problems.
• Own end-to-end delivery of solutions — from requirements and design through testing, deployment, and customer training.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested production code across the stack.
• Troubleshoot production issues on-site and remotely, prioritizing customer uptime and satisfaction.
• Feed customer insights back to product and engineering teams to improve the platform.

Minimum Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Data Science, or a related field.
• Proven experience shipping production-quality software.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills — able to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Comfortable working autonomously at customer sites and owning high-stakes projects end-to-end.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 40% for customer deployments and on-site work.
• Strong problem-solving mindset and intellectual curiosity.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience in manufacturing, hardware development, or as a product manager / lead engineer supporting manufacturing teams.
• Hands-on experience with Python and/or React (TypeScript).
• Experience working with large-scale datasets and using data to drive operational improvements.
• Comfortable in startup-like, fast-paced environments and eager to iterate quickly with customers.
