What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring Forestry Sawyers to join field crews focused on forest health, fuels reduction, post-fire rehabilitation, and defensible space projects. Projects are primarily in Colorado with possible work in surrounding states. This role is hands-on and requires heavy outdoor fieldwork, safe chainsaw operation, and frequent travel.

  • Chainsaw operations: directional felling, hazard felling, limbing, bucking
  • Slash management: lop-and-scatter, chipping, hauling material
  • Climbing, rigging and using rope systems safely
  • Erosion control: contour felling and LEB installation
  • Assist with project layout, marking, and leading cutting prescriptions
  • Equipment and tool maintenance (chainsaws and hand tools)
  • Direct and coordinate subcontractors on fuels mitigation tasks
  • Perform general forestry and restoration labor as assigned

Location & Travel

  • Work headquartered near Black Forest / Colorado Springs, CO
  • Project locations may include Colorado and neighboring states (WY, UT, NM, AZ, NV, CA)
  • Travel: 75–90% (extended field assignments and multi-day projects are common)

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 21 years of age
  • Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one upon hire
  • 1–2 years of outdoor experience in forest management, logging, or restoration work
  • Physically fit: able to bend, squat, carry up to 50 lbs, and hike with heavy gear at elevations 6,000–10,000+ ft
  • Comfortable working long days away from vehicle or amenities in varied weather
  • NWCG S-212 certification (or equivalent) preferred — candidates with 2+ years of practical sawyer/forestry experience will be considered; Confidential Client will support S-212 training within the first year if needed
  • English required; bilingual English/Spanish a plus

Preferred Background & Experience

  • NWCG S-130/S-190 wildfire training
  • ISA certification or electrical hazard tree trimming credential
  • Sawyer certification or saw mechanic experience
  • Experience identifying tree species and calculating basal area
  • Experience with helicopter logging or operating heavy forestry equipment (or willingness to train)
  • First Aid / CPR / Wilderness First Aid or similar medical certifications
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in forestry or natural resources (or current enrollment)

    • Entry-level: $22–25 per hour
    • Mid-level: $25–28 per hour
    • High-level: $28–31 per hour
