Responsibilities

Under direction from higher-level engineering staff, you will support and execute protection & coordination work for distribution FLISR (Fault Location, Isolation, and Service Restoration) initiatives. Responsibilities include:

  • Use and apply technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques on projects with complex features (conflicting design requirements, unconventional methods, difficult coordination).
  • Support development of technical documentation — designs, test plans, calculations, reports, standards, and procedures.
  • Provide technical support to Operations, Maintenance, testing/diagnostics, and Regulatory teams; may provide field engineering oversight during commissioning, testing, and inspections.
  • Coordinate or lead small–medium non-critical projects; support critical project phases (research, design, equipment selection, procurement support, installation, commissioning) under senior direction.
  • Support bid/evaluation processes including preparation of bid documents and technical evaluations; partner with Supply Chain and Legal as required.
  • Communicate frequently across teams and with outside customers on matters of varied complexity and importance.
  • Assign tasks and coordinate work for interns, drafters, technicians, craft personnel, and others as required; provide mentoring to less-experienced engineers.
  • Perform budgeting, estimating, forecasting, accounting, and work order management in support of engineering projects.
  • Continuously develop technical skills and competencies.

Candidates will be placed at the level that best matches their skills and experience. The role is open across multiple levels — Entry, Staff, Senior, and Principal — with distinct minimum qualifications and salary ranges listed below.

Entry Engineer (Salary Range: $70,000–$88,667)

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program (electrical engineering preferred).
  • 0+ years relevant engineering experience.
  • Ability to demonstrate level-appropriate technical skills and core competencies.
  • EIT/FE preferred.

Staff Engineer (Salary Range: $81,000–$106,267)

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program (electrical engineering preferred).
  • 2+ years relevant engineering experience; demonstrated broad knowledge and proficiency in the specialty area.
  • Ability to demonstrate level-appropriate technical skills and core competencies.
  • EIT/FE strongly preferred.

Senior Engineer (Salary Range: $97,000–$129,267)

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 5+ years relevant engineering experience with EIT/FE required; 7+ years without EIT/FE.
  • Ability to demonstrate level-appropriate technical skills and core competencies.
  • PE registration preferred and may be required depending on business need.

Principal Engineer (Salary Range: $112,000–$156,600)

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 9+ years relevant engineering experience with PE required; 15+ years without PE.
  • Demonstrated subject-matter expertise and leadership in engineering projects.

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Hands-on experience with protection relays, reclosing, and sectionalizing devices (e.g., SEL 651R, S&C switched cabinets).
  • Proficiency with advanced protection schemes and distribution protection design.
  • Familiarity with Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS)-based FLISR operations.
  • Ability to quantify reliability outcomes and understand reliability program objectives using advanced calculations.
  • Experience developing or working with dashboards for asset performance and system reliability tracking.
  • Proficiency with asset management tools for tracking protection devices and control types.
  • Experience training or mentoring entry-level engineers and interns.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Posted salary range across levels: $70,000 to $156,600 per year. Specific compensation will depend on the level offered, experience, and qualifications.
